    Fair.

    Fair.

The consensus had Barrera beating a prime Morales at 122lbs? :huh

    Cool. :huh

Likewise, Barrera holds two wins over Morales. I'd say this evens things out.

Not in my estimation, but I could see an argument.

You'll all have to excuse me. I've consumed a fair bit of alcohol tonight.

Poll results aside, which actually represents who is the more popular fighter as opposed to the greater one, I've always given the nod to Marco Antonio Barrera in this particular debate. Don't get me wrong, I can't passionately argue otherwise. Erik Morales is a spectacular champion, and I think he has grounds to be considered the greater fighter. However, I personally think it all boils down to how you scored and viewed their three respective fights with one another. Unfortunately for Erik Morales, Divac, and Bill Butcher, I scored all three fights in favour of Marco Antonio Barrera. Yes, Erik Morales defeated a past prime Junior Jones and he put in a great performance to overcome the Filipino. I take nothing away from Erik. I suppose he has officially became the first 4th weight world champion to hail from Mexico, albeit in ridiculous circumstances. But...when it's all said and done...I had MAB beating Morales on three seperate occasions.

Actually Bernie by the time the Morales-MAB rematch rolled around MAB had become HBO's house fighter.
Already having beat Naseem Hamed, MAB had become HBO's darling.
The boxing lesson Morales propinated MAB in their rematch I thought was epic, only to be ruined by a bogus house decision that was unanimous on the judges cards to boot.:patsch

This is how I saw the trilogy.

The first fight was close, but I gave it to MAB based on cleaner harder shots landed. I thought MAB's connects were having more effect on Morales as a whole.

The rematch I gave clearly to Morales. I thought it was the clearest and easiest fight to score. I thought Morales dominated and was way ahead in the fight. Morales fatigued in the last couple of rounds and likely left an impression with the viewer.
.....but you score round by round, and this fight was'nt even close.

Fight 3 was nauseating to have to listen to on HBO.
A razor close fight that could have been scored either way. The bias HBO had in favor of MAB was absolutely just ludicrous.
I scored the fight a draw btw.

I look back at the trilogy and take that head to head both fighters are evenly matched. Their respective styles make for an entertaining fight everytime.
......but I also took out of it that if each fighter follows his gameplan and does'nt let their machismo interfere in the way of the plan. Morales overall and even head to head is a better fighter. The 2nd fight clearly established that for me.

    Definitely.

I would strongly suggest people watch the second Marco Antonio Barrera/Erik Morales II fight on mute. The commentary team are criticising Marco from the outset. Apparently he was exclusively to blame for the fight being less action-packed than their first encounter in 2000. He was almost certainly penalized for this by all involved, and as a result, Morales punches were made to sound more effective than they were in reality.

LOL I was speaking of the first fight and third fight. Specially in the fifth round of fight #1. Morales totally dominated and pummeled MAB around. Barrera lands like a two punch combo, and all of a sudden Morales is in trouble. Morales dodged most punches of MAB's rally. Then the idiot says Morales has never tasted the canvas, he almost did 15 second ago. Wont even speak on the third fight. You would think MAB won 12 rounds and Morales didn't land a punch.

morales has a better resume with better wins. Overall their fights were close head to head but morales pulls ahead of barrera because of his better resume

i wish morales would have gotten that hamed fight, it would have been epic. He would have traded with hamed and whooped his ass. He traded with barrera and pac, both better fighters than hamed, he can handle little hamed and his off balance poor defense ass.

Trading with Hamed = a trip to the emergency room, I'm pretty sure Erik knew that. You don't trade punches with Naseem Hamed.

Not sure he could have helped himself though. Hamed's chances were a lot better v. Erik than v. Marco because of that.
