Calzaghe hands down. Title defence record, unified. His resume is lacking but Mitchell, Reid, Lacy and Kessler are good enough wins.

I vote for the much maligned, disrespected Joe Calzaghe here...it's gonna take years for the myopic detractors of his to be proven wrong.

 

i like benn because he's far more exiting to watch.is he better than calzaghe........probably no.

i'll go for eubank at 168 and benn at 160.

eubank is better than some peeps are saying.

 

I think it's close Between Benn, Eubank and Calzaghe.They all have some obvious strengths and weaknesses.

 

I'm going with Benn, he beat a P4P top5 fighter in McClellan, arguably beat Prime Eubank (most had him winning that draw), 4 wins over WBC titlists Galvano (twice), Nardiello and Mallinga. Wharton was also 1 of the best in Europe and Piper 1 of Britains best. Then throw in destructive wins against Barkley and Dewitt at MW and you have a mighty impressive resume

Calzaghe is unbeaten but his best win at the weight is probably a past prime weight drained Eubank, followed by Kessler and Lacy, followed by a contentious decision against Reid, past it Mitchell, and Brewer. All good wins but none as impressive as McClellan. At 175lbs he has a contentious win over a 43yo Hopkins and a Shot Jones

Also although Calzaghe is unbeaten he arguably has losses to Hopkins and Reid

 

The thing is Eubank couldn't be assed at 168 and had many disputed decisions, perhaps because of the Watson incident

 

Wharton is underrated a bit.Not my kind of fighter, but he'd do really well were he around today.

Very good chin, great power and terrific left-hook.His offensive skills were good, with a heavy sharp jab and some tidy combinations..triple left hooks, doubling up on the right hand etc..

Also a one-paced plodder that looked far less impressive against anyone using a lot of lateral movement, but still....I'd have bet on him wrecking Froch, LAcy or Taylor.

I thought the Eubank fight took a lot out of him though.Eubank was really sharp that night, despite the weight issues he was having by that time.Some great counterpunching from him in it.
