haha, i agree in the sense that oscar got to choose his fights. did he "cherry" pick weak opponents. **** NO. i said it once, i'll say it again, one of the best resumes ever.
I do not. I think the very fact that the name 'Oscar' has been mentioned once in a thread about cherrypicking is shameful. I''l repeat: This is bull****. There isn't a fighter in history that you can't go through all of the weight divisions around them in the times they fought and pick out people that they didn't fight. It isn't possible for anyone to have fought every single possible opponent in 6 weight divisions. To say that bringing up Oscar's name in a discussion of cherrypicking is a valid point because he didn't fight every single fighter who fought in the weight classes he did is absurd. By the same logic, Duran is a cherrypicker because he fought Davey Moore and Kirkland Laing but did not fight Aaron Pryor and Michael Nunn. Picking names off his resume and picking better guys who fought in the divisions around him in the same era is not in any way applicable to the term "cherrypicking". No way.
I think Mayweather Jr is a legitimate answer. He didn't fight any of the top Welterweights during his stint there.
Maybe I'm wrong lol. Maybe I don't know what a cherry picker is lol... I'm out. You guys keep listening to Dinamita. He knows it all, and never lifted a ****in glove in his life to call anyone his definition of the term 'cherry picker'...*****! lol
I can't understand why you thought I was ever disagreeing with you. If you had read my posts, and I can only assume you didn't given your confusion, I clearly stated that Oscar does not deserve a mention in this thread. However, he did pick his opponents. We've agreed on this. He just picked the best fighters in the world, more often than not. He is NOT a Cherry picker.
If the thread was called: Who had most input into the selection of their opponents ever? Then we could discuss Oscar, because he had huge reserves of money and influence. But that is NOT what the term "cherrypicking" means in a boxing sense!
He still can though... Floyd was the champ, so who ever he didn't fight is not his fault. Floyd is about money as PAc is also. Should Pac fight Bradley or Cotto at a catch weight? Money talks...
Actually, I had my first amateur fight this week. Like every other time we have crossed swords, you have came off a distant second best. When will you ever learn? I hope you never do my little punchbag :good
agreed, in terms of cherrypicking oscar is no where in the stratusphere. now who is...do we want to talk joe louis or will thegreat **** me up?
I don't see the comparison. Pacquiao is fighting bigger men on a consistant basis. How was he too know that Oscar would come in weight drained? Mayweather fought Oscar De La Hoya, I give him credit, but why was he fighting Hatton at 147lb, when there was more deserving opposition?
