Very close between RJJ and Sweet Pea.

Would just about give it to RJJ.

this is the best poll i have seen on here in a long time. I think that you left off a few guys that maybe should be on there. Like Ricardo Lopez and Azumah Nelson.

Good point in the last post. I notice that Chavez wasn't even considered for the poll: surely he'd have been the third or fourth name you'd think of. Anyway the best two of that period is pretty set in stone, though I have Whitaker ahead: close but clearly over RJJ.

I find it a bit difficult to believe there's such a numerical difference between the two in this poll. As great a fighter as Jones was I just can't see him ahead of Whitaker.

Isn't Sweet Pea rated higher than RJJ on most ATG lists? Then wouldn't that mean Sweet Pea should be greater than RJJ?

I fixed your poll. Although the thread does say FIGHTERS and not BOXERS.......so......I'm not sure anymore.

Since you argued that age wasn't a factor, Calzaghe just fought a prime Hopkins.

    Slap yourself.

after 187 votes the list is as follows:

    Roy Jones Jr
    Sweet Pea Whitaker
    Floyd Mayweather Jr
    Joe Calzaghe
    Mike Tyson
    Evander Holyfield
    Lennox Lewis
    Oscar De La Hoya
    John Ruiz
    Tito Trinidad

i personally think some of them are wrong but i will wait until more have posted to see if it comes into line with what i think

I knew Roy would be #1 on the poll, but those who have carefully followed both of their respective carrers know Pea is a shade higher.

I went for Jones because he was easily the best fighter there, in his prime. I was tempted for De La Hoya because of his promoting, but that shouldn't come into the equation. Tyson was another I was thinking about because he is a household name who go great viewings back in the 80's.
    But Jones for me.
