Totally agree with this. Walcott would do very well against Ali and not so well versus Johnson. Great post

Foreman is a fighter I would tend to pick him over, though that's maybe not a shock as he's ranked in the same sort of clutch as Foreman on my list.

Mmm...not really. He had just as much trouble with Walcott in the 2nd fight, until he caught up with him. Several posters here also say that Walcott was thrown out of the Louis camp for making him look bad.
I've never read that myself, but too many people of sufficient credibility have said so for me to not believe it.

Yes I've read that somewhere too, I think he possibly dropped him while sparring?

Ya walcott was pretty decently ahead in the cards after 10 rounds in the 2nd fight too.

Joe Louis predicted every fighter who faced Ali would win. He picked Cleveland Williams to knock him out. Nice one Joe.

I think Williams did a nice job busting up Ali's hands with his face when the ref stopped it prematurely. He obvioulsy didn't see the bigger picture.

Seriously, though, Louis gave Ali his due in the Terrell fight, when he said he was great. A champion like Louis should really be somewhat grudging until he finally admit greatness in another boxer. This way it doesn't get to be so inflated.

Ali's response was of course that he had been telling everybody of his greatness for a long time, so it shouldn't really be news to Louis.

    Anybody.

    Literaly anybody.

It is implicit in Walcotts style and physical tools that he has a chance against anyone.

Predicting Ali's fights was never one of Joes strong points.

Ironicaly he was one of the few people who genuinely picked Foreman to beat Frazier before the event.

Another heavyweight I like the Walcott chances against would be Bowe.

That leaky defense and ponderous footwork are definately weaknesses Walcott had the tools to exploit. It sure wouldn't be easy in there, but I think that Walcott defense is pretty effective against uppercuts and he'd only have to concern himself with the right uppercut from Bowe anyway. If he takes that punch away from the Bowe effectiveness, I think he'll score the points for a nice win. He's proven he can fight in the lions den effectively and Bowe is a guy that can be hit in there and the accuracy of Walcott would be a big problem for Bowe.

One should not be too hard on old champions such as Louis or Dempsey as prognosticators. They were often paid by the promoters to publicly pick the underdogs to give the fight credibility.

The first time i've heard that. Considering how corrupt boxing is at times, it certainly doesn't sound inplausible, but do you have any evidence?
