Back in the day the promoters or the managers asked favors of fighters to promote the live gate....a guy like CONN or Tunney WOULD TOUT the boxer or a puncher like dempsey or Louis would build up the puncher...live gate promotions were important then but if you want to talk about a family...look at they way Golden Boy...Suger Shane...B-Hop..Money Mayweather are promoting. and the rest of the training mayweather monopoly....Yea Floyd told his uncle Roger NOT to be in Forbes corner..like a cornerman could acually make 2 LB win..comon

Not really. Before the two fought in the ring, Walcott floroed Louis 2-3 times in sparring. I think Louis knew who Walcott was before he meet him.

I just think Louis' picks against Ali were due to sour grapes and/or not realising his talents myself. Dempsey was the same with Louis, for similar reasons tho i'd lean more heavily to the sour grapes option.

The only three louis picked over ali were himself, marciano, and walcott. its not like he was picking tony musto over muhammad ali

Correct me if wrong but i thought we were talking about Louis picking Ali's actual opponents over him, and of course being incorrect. As said previously he took Cleveland Williams over Ali :patsch

Yes, he picked a lot of of them. I believe he also trained Chuvalo at one point (in 66). I don't know how much of it was Louis' effort, but the Canadian fought a fine fight, considering his athletic limitations compared to Ali.

Louis was as good a preditor of fight results as Jim Corbett,if Joe picked you it was usually the "kiss of death".

Dempsey picked Baer to knock out Louis and even after his prediction was smashed he still moaned Baer should have won.

In Hemingway's short-story "50 grand" from 1927 the main characters actually make fun of Corbett's inability to pick a winner. The story is about an old champion taking on his last challenger. It's a good read. Hemingway knew his boxing and he definitely knew about writing.

Walcott could upset any heavyweight in the history of the sport. The only other fighter that I consider as clever and crafty is Archie Moore. Walcott had great ring smarts and he could adapt to nearly every style and box to his advantage.
