Lewis is probably THE most overrated fighter on this site - certainly the most overrated HW. That this poll is so lopsided in his favor shows that clearly.

Holyfield was the best HW since Larry Holmes. Never saw him starched by second-raters, and he faced the other top guys of the era when they were formidable opponents, not when they were ready to be taken.

:good i actually couldnt believe the result of this poll. 55% for lewis? lol! that shows how really overrated lewis is. when in fact holyfield faced better opposition than lewis or tyson. foreman in 91, though obviously ancient, was still a force back then (in fact, tyson wanted no part of him after his confindence was shattered by douglas), and was better than any of the guys lewis fought in a title match. bowe of 92-93 was better than any of the fighters lewis had ever fought. and also, he beat the power punching mercer more soundly that lewis did.

Um, no. George was carefully matched, and old. he was far from a force.

He wasn't ****, but he was far away from being a force.

He was obviously better than Holyfield too wasn't he?

He beat Mercer better than Lewis did? So what? Really want to go down the whole "if A beats B.." path?

Holy didn't defend his title for more than 3 consecutive wins. That is simply not a dominant fighter.

While Tyson held the PHYSICAL advantages over Lewis...Lewis held the technical advantages over him.

You speak of the Tyson from the 80's and early 90's, yet ignore that tho he was (and I am not even attempting at arguing this point) more dominant in his reign, his domination came against MUCH lesser competition. Put Lewis vs anyone that Tyson beat during that period and he wins every single fight as well.

Im not knocking Tyson at all...just stating facts about his career (his resume is weaker than the rest of the people in this poll....BY A LARGE MARGIN)...I truely believe he is one of the greatest HW's of all time...but not higher than anyone on this list...and I also feel that Lewis beats Tyson 9 out 10 times...

I would also like to state that I was a MUCH bigger Tyson fan than I ever was a Lewis fan...so Im not speaking out of fandom, rather what my two eyes see.

I'd pick Lewis in terms of achievments i.e. Olympic Gold medal, avenging both defeats, three time Heavyweight champion etc.

For pure skill I'd have Tyson though, his speed, defence and especially his power were just unreal.

then name any opponent lewis had in a title match who was better tahn 91 george. foreman was the most formidable contender in 91. remember that old george would become a linear champ again in 94 by beating moorer

no. he beat bowe in a rematch. now, name any opponent in lewis resume who was better than bowe P4P and H2h.

holy beat mercer better than lewis did. thats a fact and that says a lot.

defends on how you define dominant. if the case at bar was, who betwen lewis and holy faced and beat the better opposition, id say its holyfield.

holy fought and beat MORE established fighters than lewis had in his resume.

    foreman
    bowe
    better tyson

Lewis by default, because You cut Holmes' prime in half. Extend it to 30 yrs. and it's Holmes easy. A couple of bad decisions aside, Holmes never really lost until the Tyson fight, when he was way past his prime.

I really hadn't realized how underrated Holmes is, and the opposite for Lewis.
