i am rating them based on their overall accomplishments. if were not including holmes resume from 83 below, of course there couldnt be any valid reason for him to be placed above these names

In the last 25 years, the answer is clearly Lewis.

    Last 30 years, Holmes.

I still rate Lewis ahead of Holmes in all time heavyweight rankings, primarily because Holmes was unfortunate not to face any other heavy of note in their prime. The same accusation could be levelled at Lewis, but I feel Holyfield and Kllitschko are better opposition than on Holmes' resume.

To answer the question though, over the last 25 years its between Lewis and Tyson for me but a lack of longevity in Tyson's career means Lewis takes it. I think I must underrate Holyfield because everyone on here thinks he's the dogs proverbials but I'd put him third on this list ahead of Holmes but I have him behind all three in terms of all time heavies.

Why would we be including his resume from before 83 when the thread title is "best HW of the last 25 yrs"? :good

one of the biggest blot in lewis resume was the first mccall fight. probably the main reason why many people regard lewis as an overrated HW. whats your take on that?

    heres my list:
    1) holmes
    2) lewis
    3) tyson
    4) holyfield

He avenged the defeat. He wasnt the same fighter pre McCall (or pre-Steward whichever way you want to look at it). I'm not holding one fight, or two fights taking Rahman into account, against a boxer who looked tremendous for the latter part of his career. Lewis grew into his reputation whereas most fighters fall out of theirs, that in itself needs to be applauded. Lewis improved beyond all measure following the McCall fight.

because its nonsense to rate a guy based on a particular part of their carreer when were talking about greatness.

but ok, you got me. lets not include holmes resume from below 83

losing to a bum if youre an aging champ is understandable (ali-leon). and i think losing to a bum via KO2 in your prime is inexcusable.

I love when people try and argue Holy > Lewis at Heavy. There just isn't enough logic in the world you can throw at them to back them down. P4P, overall those might be different...but at HEAVY Lewis is greater :good

Lewis wasnt in his prime. His prime came after the McCall fight.
