I could I have been so forgetful? The greatest fighter living obviously is the "Cooney of the Holmes fight". Gerry the killer has JO's every great heavyweight in history in threads on this site. Sox it is obvious he MUST be the greatest living fighter!

He's absolutely up there. Not counting post 2002 Ring Magazine would be something like this -

    1. Roberto Duran
    2. Sugar Ray Leonard
    3. Pernell Whitaker
    4. Marvin Hagler
    5. Julio Cesar Chavez
    6. Eder Jofre
    7. Evander Holyfield
    8. George Foreman
    9. Larry Holmes
    10. Ruben Olivares

Makes one realise just how many are gone now.

no. he did not beat any elites except Leonard who then beat him easily. The most overrated guy in the history of boxing. He did not have other gears. Just one, and if that didn't work he didn't win, and he only needed that one gear for most of the mediocre guys he fought at lightweight.

Duran cannot be better than Ray if Ray beat Hearns, Benitez and Hagler, the elites Duran could not beat.. Foreman?? Hearns is better than Foreman. Beat better guys and more titles. I agree with Pernell. This is a joke list right?

You guys don't understand elite and having two ways to fight. Backing up and coming forward. You are all followers. Duran has feet wide apart which means that style will eventually be hurt by a fast guy either who moves, or who exploits his hand positioning as Benitez did, and remember Benitez fought at 140 as early as 1976... not far from Duran and he still outclassed Duran, and you are saying Duran is the best ever? Nonsense.

Hearns is actually underrated.. He beat Cuevas for a title. Duran for unification, Benitez for a title. Hill for a title. superfights and titles. He is underrated.

these same guys who say Duran is the greatest had Hearns never fought Duran, they would say now Duran would have knocked out Hearns, But the fight happened and Hearns destroyed him in two rounds. And they were both champs at 154
