I remember a couple of months back we had a topic about the best fighters/decade and the 1990's were a big sticking point. So now I ask you Classic who has the greatest claim to being the king of the 90's, resume and H2H wise?

As far as I can reckon there are three main candidates:

I would go Pea if he had wins over either Tito or Oscar, but that, along with Roy beating Toney and Hopkins makes me say Roy.

I think the top two stars of the 1990's come down to either Roy Jones or Pernell whitaker, depending on your criteria. Both of those guys were stellar for quite sometime, and really established themselves as true p4p greats.

Whitaker, without question. He beat better opposition, and had the ridiculous skills. Holyfield a very distant third.

Sweet Pea despite the los(ses). Jones looked more dominant and spectacular but Pea´s resume is better - and Jones was a doper. Holyfield lost to often to be considered IMO - and he doped.

It can only be Jones or Whitaker IMO, Holyfield not a live contender for the top spot.

As I scored both the Chavez and the De La Hoya fight for Whitaker, I have to vote Whitaker, despite some of his top performances occurring in the late 80s.

    Tight between Jones and Whitaker.

    Think I'll go for Whitaker

Well i think it's worth mentioning that Pea's resume is even better than what it should be given that some of his losses are blatant robberies or decisions that he arguably earned.

About Jones doping- he was using andro which still hasn't been correlated with any degree of athletic performance increase, and only the IBF deemed it illegal. You could say Pea possibly blasting off with some booger sugar before a fight to be legitimately performance enhancing.

Edit: I agree with the people singling out Jones and Whitaker as the most likely suspects for a nomination. Very tough call between the two of them. I see Jones as having the weaker resume but more dominant performances, talent/athleticism being near equal(jones lack of chin versus pea's lack of power), very tough call. If Jones had taken on Calzaghe, DM, and maybe even taken a shot at Lewis we might be able to edge it to 'im earlier. Hopkins II happening so late and Toney II just not happening at all is another thing that hurts him here.
