Nah, we've seen him before. He's no "power puncher". Was the being called by "most" the heaviest puncher in the division?:huh

By the way, I know stats are stats but...just to throw into the equation

Robert has 11 KO's in 17 wins. Good, but not earth shattering evidence he's anything more than a decent hitter. Maybe very good by todays standards, but a true heavyweight power puncher he certainly ain't.

Neither's Haye of course, but I think wobbling Valuev, putting away a durable Ruiz at least puts him in the same bracket. I have doubts many heavyweights aside of Wladimir could do that. Whether thats attributed more to handspeed or other factors is kinda irrelevant, the only power that matters is effective power after all.

Yes, I agree, I'm not arguing the merits of Helenius as a great HW. He isn't one.

He WAS known first and foremost for his devastating right hand power as he was coming up the ranks, though. It's absurd that anyone is questioning perception of him as a big hitter. He was seen as basically a heavyweight Pavlik, a one dimensional 1-2 ****** (but don't let yourself get caught by that 1-2).

For those of us who actually deign to watch boxing not involving even one participant from our home country, Helenius' rise through contention was marked by one thing: his powerful right hand.

Of course, to anyone seeing him for the first time against Chisora you wouldn't know he was a supposed to be a big puncher. He tired quickly and was reduced to lots of ineffective pawing and slapping. (although even his arm punches have to be viewed as heavy-handed, in the same manner as VK's)

    This is why:

    a) I hold Chisora's beard in very high regard

    b) I suspect maybe the "Helenius is feather fisted" crew truly did only see him for the first time a few months ago, way behind the rest of us...

    After Wladimir, obviously...yes.

Serious question, are you trolling me?

You seem to be trolling far more, IB  Double reverse trolling, a classic move!!

P.S. Is being a heavyweight Pavlik really a statement? Pavlik's only heavy handed, he's not the sort of puncher you'd expect to compare with a true heavyweight puncher which you're making out Helenius is. As it happens I think you're probably right, he IS a heavyweight Pavlik ;)

Now Pavlik wasn't known as a puncher at middleweight?

    OK, I'm outta here.

Pavlik was a decent puncher at 160 same as Helenius is a HW but neither is what I'd call a "power puncher".

:conf Tell that to their KO victims. (which number for both includes a much higher class than the 3 Stooges that Haye has stopped at HW...)

In terms of merely raw power, I'd say Helenius might hit harder than Haye.

However, Haye is more explosive(maybe not to the same degree as he was in his CW days, but he's still carried some of it) and possesses superior timing imo. Raw power is pretty much all The Nordic Nightmare has going for him that is particularly impressive, and what real good is that against decent opposition if you can't set it up, time it correctly, etc. Hell, never mind decent opposition, he's struggled to implement it against pretty sub-standard opponents.

Regardless of whether the Finn wields more power, Haye's is more dangerous to Chisora than Helenius' is, in my opinion.

Plus he's got the speed that they lack. Haye wins this easy. I honestly think he'll blow him away Enzo style.

    Its 4 Stooges BTW.

Shall I also tell Paulie Ms "KO victim" from last weekend that he was flattened by a "power puncher"?

    5. ;) If you're counting Bonin, may as well give Semiskur a shout.

And Helenius wasn't going around scoring cuts or accumulation stoppages on the way up. He was hurting people with his slow right hands and then setting about finishing them off like a rabid tortoise.

You'd know that if you'd actually been watching him in action or paying attention to his name (here and on every other boxing forum or discussion page in existence) before a British boxer went to challenge him. :good
