I'll throw a curve ball for Max Schmeling, if the story of him keeping jews hidden safe during the nazi campaign are true. Especially being as they tried to make a champion of him. That shows all kinds of heart and balls

So are most of the topics on this board lately. Giant amorphous questions presented without context or criteria. Thus, we get the same all or nothing cheerleader answers..."Rocky, Rocky, Rocky, Wlad's a ******, Liston's a bum..." Scintillating stuff.

This forum is analogous to today's heavyweight division.

There's no biggest heart as there are so many guys with equally big hearts you can't choose between them.

the list is big, every fighter did show great heart in some fights , joe frazier did show huge heart in manilla, ali did show great heart when he got up against cooper, he was 21 at this time, marciano did show heart when he got up against walcott, old foreman did show great heart when he took the combinations of a peak holyfield and still he was fighting for the victory, when he got up against ron lyle too , holyfield did show great heart when he faced riddick bowe, buster douglas did show great heart when he got knocked down by tyson , larry holmes did show great heart when he faced spoon ,norton and shavers, lennox lewis did show heart against brak bruno, he was hurt seriously

There's also been an allegation that he was complaining about some sort of fouling by Max when he was gesturing. With his accent, and if speaking through a mouthpiece, it may have been difficult to discern exactly what he was verbally communicating. Why did he get up from that last knockdown though, if his intention was to concede the match and title?

If he had managed to be on his feet at the final bell, he could well be the first person cited in this thread. There's no record of him ever being counted out. What he did do in the rounds where he remained upright after sustaining that hospitalization inducing ankle injury in the opening round was remarkable, and raises some questions about what might have happened without his being hampered by that. [Keep in mind that match was scored on a rounds basis, and Primo won all the filmed rounds where he remained upright.]

He was considered a viable challenger for a title rematch during Maxie's one year reign, and did come back from Louis with a legitimate cut stoppage win over Neusel in MSG. Unhampered by injury, I would NOT rule out a successful title defense decision win by him over Max after repelling Loughran three months earlier, nor would I have ruled out his reacquisition of the title in an early 1935 rematch after Carnera-Campolo II. He had clearly much faster hands than Max [who was not that good a boxer, and known to blow bouts by clowning them away]. Even when serious, MB had difficult competition with a sub par Schmeling, and was retired when determined to continue his career in the Nova rematch.

Ali saying he would have quit if he knew his jaw was broken... doesn't that mean he's already below Tommy Morrison when you look at just heart?
Tommy his mouth was bleeding (broken jaw), and his hand was broken by the time he finished of Joe Hipp.

Not saying any of the three didn't have a big heart for boxing, Hipp got his cheekbone shattered and didn't quit.

marciano getting his nose split open like a walnut and coming out for the next round, fighting through the blood and the pain...just refusing to lose AND rallying to knock his great opponent out.ranks pretty high to me.

Joe Frazier. Ali and particular members of his corner called Frazier 'stupid'. That equates to 'heart that scares us to death'. Stupid was how long Ali kept fighting after he got finished by Frazier in Manila.

If you want an example of huge heart, look no further than Joe Frazier.
