These 2 obviously dont like each other expressing their dislike for each other through the media. With them dissing the other's legacy and all, who do you think had the better one and is ranked higher ATG atm.
i only voted for Floyd as i dislike him more than Hopkins.... On a serious note, Hopkins did rule the middleweight division for 10 years, and Floyd did win world titles at many weight divisions. Quite close really :rasta
Hopkins for me but not by far.... I think an impressive victory over Mosley would put Mayweather ahead of Hopkins.
Mayweather Hes undefeated, and made his career fighting bigger guys Hopkins has 5 losses, and made his career fighting smaller guys
At the moment, Hopkins by some margin. His resume is just a lot more solid. People hold a lot of **** against him, however he started the decade vs. the be(a)st who was supposed to KTFO him and ended the decade with a repeat performance, beating all kinds of elite fighters in between. Mayweather, as great as he is, and his resume is very very good, will always be remembered for his calculated risks (including Pacquiao), which couldn't be farther from Hopkins. He beat whoever was in front of him, whoever was the champ or top guy, he didn't make Trinidad the champ, didn't make De La Hoya the champ, didn't make Tarver the champ, didn't make Pavlik the champ, but he beat them all with ease even if was the underdog how many times? He picked on "his Cotto" in Taylor and barely lost twice, fought Calzaghe, a top3 P4P-er and many had him winning, and the only "small fighter" he personally picked was Winky Wright, the P4P#2 nobody wanted to touch. And Hopkins performances in his recent "losses" are not worse than Mayweather's performance in the 1st Jose Luis Castillo fight. It's just a more solid resume, and I don't know if Pacquaio will be enough for Floyd when we'll look back at these two, their record, who they fight, who did they refuse to fight and who they beat, 25 years from now. Hopkins' stock will only rise, nobody gives a **** about the "0" and the trash talk in ATG conversations.
In fairness, Mayweather hasn't really faced that many bigger guys really. He's actually not a bad size for a welter.
Hopkins legacy is better than PBF's at this point in time. The guys in his 40's and still going strong and is by most accounts a top 5 all time middleweight. He's got longivity and defense titles on his side by a wide margin. To me that's more impressive than fighting hand picked belt holders, winning and then moving on. That said, if PBF can beat SSM and Pac, I'd elevate him ahead of Hopkins.
Hopkins. Quality of Opposition: Hopkins: Trinidad, DLH, Tarver, Pavlik, (Winky) Mayweather: DLH, Hatton, Judah, Castillo, (JMM) Hopkins comfortably Dominance: Hopkins: Shut out most of his opponents across 20 title defences, and most/all of his biggest wins have been freakishly dominant (virtual shut-outs). But has lost several times. Mayweather: Generally wins comfortably, though has only scraped past his best opponents (Castillo, DLH). Undefeated. Close one, I'd go with Hopkins if you account for age and such. H2H Ability Hopkins: One of the GOATs at 160 (a strong division), largely untested above Mayweather: One of the GOATs at 130, decent above but wouldn't crack the top echelon. Even, being generous to Mayweather. Mayweather has done much more weight jumping, but Hopkins has dominated for longer. They roughly even each-other out. Hopkins clearly.
Its close i voted floyd though as he has been more dominant and won titles at 5 different weight classes and was ranked p4p no.1 for 3 yrs and never actually lost it.
