It is the Hall of Fame not Hall of Greatness, thus IMO, McGuigan is far from the bottom of the list, as he was huge in Britain and Ireland in 85/86, and on verge of making it in the States during that period.

But it is not for Great fighters, it is for fighters who had fame, so McGuigan is rightly there.

If it were for greats, you could not have half a dozen going in each year, because as a rule, you struggle to get half a dozen greats a decade....

Barry is the worst fighter in there though, despite being a lovely guy.

I expect Hatton to make the cut one day...do you think he could be the worst???

It's getting to the point where just being a linear heavyweight champion is enough to qualify one for automatic induction. If we accept that, "as goes the heavyweights, so goes boxing," then maybe it follows that, as go the heavyweight inductees, so goes the rest of the IBHOF. The floodgates are wide open in Canastota, so they might as well include those very few heavyweight champions who are not already in. (Who are they? Hart, Carnera, Leon Stinks?) Perhaps they should go even farther, and dump in Tammy Terrell, Ellis and Louise Ruiz.

To learn more about great boxers who would otherwise be forgotten, I'm better off going here than returning to Canastota.

I quite agree, an International Boxing Hall of Fame should in due course find a place for Butterbean, like you said, he qualifies.

The IBHOF is a joke, and always has been.

The very best this sport has, does not include a McGuigan for starters.

It is a commercial business, it is not looking out for greats, but those who are going to attract visitors.

It is a Hall of Fame, clearly not a Hall of Greatness.
