    this is going to sound ****ed up but if there are multiple divisions and the champion retires maybe the last guy to beat him is the lineal champ. i mean wtf else do you have to go on.

    Vitali Klitschko should be regarded as having the best claim to the lineal title due to his performance against Lennox Lewis. Tenuous I know.
