Floyd Mayweather - He has not really accomplished what he could have in this division yet, he has fought fighters at this weight but not taken on what people call an "elite" welterweight. Althought Baldomir and Judah were good wins he should have progressed with the names of Mosley, Cintron, Williams, Cotto or Clottey. Mayweather claims he did try and get a fight with Cotto, but Cotto's camp claimed he was too "green" at the time.

Miguel Cotto - Used to be "The Man" definitely after beating Shane Mosley, but post Margarito he has never looked the same threatening fighter he used to be. After the Pacquiao loss its hard to see how he can turn things around again, I believe he was mentally damaged as a fighter from the Margarito fight and it showed against Pacquiao.

Manny Pacquiao - Strong contender at the moment, however he faced Cotto at a catch weight, beating Clottey at 147 would present a very strong arguement he is the man at welterweight.

Shane Mosley - After destroying Margarito and calling nearly everyone out, Shane Mosley does seem like the man to beat in this division at the moment. However the question is how much does he have left in the tank? And was Margarito drained and mentally damaged in that fight?

Joshua Clottey - Yet to really do anything to make him an elite fighter, however a win over Pac would push him one step further.

    At what weight?

At the same weight that Mosely fought him?

Before or after the Margarito bludgeoning?

Before or after Shane pimp-slapped the guy who bludgeoned him?

I would have to say Mosley. Mayweather hasn't beat any top Welterweights. If he beats SSM(which I think he will) then that would make him thee man!

Mosley has the biggest claim to it.

It's not who people think is the best in the division.

Cotto was not the man to beat when Pac beat him.

    Shane is the man.

    He's the champ.

I thought that was pretty obvious.

Mosley's case is better with Floyd second, imo. I wish their fight would be for the Ring title.

1 pound lower than what cotto was in his previous fight tho?

the ring weight was the same

marg is a proven cheat, shane has only defeated margo as a big name for ages. seems like american bias to him imo

pacquaio is the pound for pound best and is officially a welterweight so he must be the best welter or he wouldnt be pound for pound. very logical

there are 3 other champs as well?

i thought it was pretty obvious that the pound for pound best would be top since he is in that weight class....guess it wasnt obvious
