Mayweather is the man at welterweight. Why not ask what 1 + 1 = or how to spell "cat" spoting us the "c" and the "a".
Mayweather the best welterweight in terms of skill/talent/abillity as well as resume.

because he (Floyd) beat the #1 ww at the time (Shane)...if number 2 beats number 3 and 5, he DOES NOT become number 1 (ahem Pac)...to add to this Floyd was #1 and retired #1, so in his return he should have been #1 anyway.

Floyd best resume at welterweight? He's been at 147 since Dec. 2005. In those 5 years, pick out below the welters and former welters than Floyd fought.

    1. Shane Mosley
    2. Miguel Cotto
    3. Antonio Margarito
    4. Paul Williams
    5. Joshua Clottey
    6. Manny Pacquiao

    Just one, Shane Mosley.

In comparison from 1-5, Pac would have fought his 4th on that list come this May. And Pac's only been a welter since Dec. 2008. :deal

Floyd is "the man" at welterweight as he beat Baldomir. Until he officially retires for good or gets beat at 147 he will be the man.

    Pacquaio victory over cotto-clottey-delahoya

Cotto and clottey were top 5 fighting mosley next and berto could be next if floyd is still on vacation:lol:

    What happens if:

    -Pac beats Mosley
-Mayweather negotiations fail again, no Pac-May @fall
-Pac beats another WW @fall (Berto / Marquez @142-145 catchweight)

Could Pacquiao have earned being "the man" at WW if that scenario happens? There would be no WW's for him to fight at that point; he would have to call the 140s (Maidana, Bradley, Alexander) to come up for 147, or maybe Paul Williams (probably not happening). Mayweather would have been in a 'vacation' as long as his 'retirement' at that point

Of course the answer's easier if Pacquiao-Mayweather happens...

    1. Shane Mosley: World class #3 welterweight as I write this. Mayweather Win UD 12. Mosley has trubble with boxers who keep their distance from him. Which means Mayweather had advantages going in to the fight. However Mayweather took the fight to Moley and domantaed him. Pacquiao's next fight. Mosley has one punch power and Pacquiao is not the most elusive boxer in the world.
    2. Miguel Cotto: Very good but not great. He 's a loss waiting to happen. It was not loaded gloves that cost him against Margarito. I'd pick Cotto to win a rematch with Margarito. However I'd pick Mosley in a rematch with Cotto Pacquiao Win TKO 12. Outside of comming off of his win over Mosley what has Cotto done to deserve a fight with Mayweather or Pacquiao?
    3. Antonio Margarito: Hype job. He was not weekend by losing his plaster wraps before the his loss to Mosley. He was exposed for what he is a tough guy with little boxing talent. Sure he packs a good punch, but he's basicaly a human punching bag that throws punches back.
    4. Paul Williams: Williams might be the man at 147 if he would use his size better. His best win at 147 is over Margarito.
    5. Joshua Clottey: In terms of being a human Punching bag Clottey is the man. Sure Pacquiao fought and won an easy 12 round decision but that is what he's suposed to do with a human punching bag.
    6. Manny Pacquiao: Lets review 1. Cotto very good boxer but by no means great. Cashed in on his win over Mosley.2. Clottey Best win a past his best Zab Judah. Also known for his close losses to Cotto and Margarito. 3. Margarito Hype job. I can't be more clear than that. Before you mention the weight diffrance. Keep two things in mind. 1. Pacquiao chose to weigh in at 144. 2. The fact that the weigh in was the day of the fight allowed both boxers to put weight back on. The fact that Margarito added so much more weight than Pacquiao shows that he was wight drained.
Outside of Cotto (also Mosley if Pacquiao wins) which Pacquiao win should I be impresed by?

    That's dumb. It's called rehydrating.

You want weight-drained? De La Hoya against Pacquiao. The man could only go to 147 at fight night when he was expected to be around 160.
