    WHAT!!! :rofl

The handful of European Kessler nuthuggers (and honestly, I can't say I'm far behind his most vocal defenders...general consensus among even the most extreme Mikkel fans seems to be that he's the clear #1 at 168 in Joe's absence and that's about it...the furthest reach I've seen is maybe a couple of overzealous individuals picking him over Dawson) overrate him more than the legion Pav-lickers deify their boy???? Am I reading that right?

What do you think this poll would have looked like before Hopkins/Pavlik? Whatever Kellymania was, what we're getting now is downright hilarious. People jumped ship on this guy like he was the Titanic. :rofl :rofl :rofl

A poll that didn't include Pavlik nuthuggers would have looked like this. One that did include Pavlik nuthuggers (fairweather or otherwise) would have looked different.

He's still #8 in my top 10 of (active) favourite fighters. ;)

But I never thought he was a "complete" fighter.... far from it.

I'm not a Pavlik nuthugger in the slightest, if anything I don't really care for him, and to me he's a more complete fighter than Kessler. Of course, I don't think very highly of either guy in terms of overall packaging.

I can see what you're saying. In my mind there's no way you can be as slow and unathletic as Pavlik and make it this far without a fairly good overall acumen. Kessler on the other hand is 100% athlete. Totally different ends of the spectrum.

Aside from a concentrated body attack, what exactly is Mikkel missing?

He has all the tools you could want, and has at some point or another demonstrated the ability to pull any of them out of the box and use them with aplomb. He just hasn't needed to vary it up much against a lot of his opposition.

Pavlik probably doesn't have tricks up his sleeve that we haven't seen. And what we have seen of what he does, is done with less technical finesse than the more varied sampling of what we've seen from Kess.

You make an excellent point, and I do agree - I just feel the discrepency in natural athleticism, agility, and hand and footspeed is so much in Kessler's favor it allows him to get away with certain cheats that Pavlik couldn't get away with. Pavlik's attack is alot more varied and he tends to use more angles from what I can tell. Pavlik's footwork while a great deal slower and more lumbering enables to him plant and throw hard in transition, whereas if Kessler isn't set just right not only can he not get off a good punch, sometimes he can't punch at all. Pavlik's defense is superior in my view as well. I think that if we went through each thing that each guy does we would find that Pavlik does most of it slightly better and more economically.

In a way, both IntentionalButt and you, Rafa, have a point. :blood

In short, Kessler is more skilled and balanced as a fighter, when Pavlik is an "overachiever" compared to Mikkel, cause of the lack of natural talent. Eh?

    Got it, thanx. :thumbsup

For some reason (probably your posts over the time youve been here) I get the impression the 'overall packaging' we are talking about is color of their skin, right?

    :think

I will go with Kessler. Seems that he puts his punches better than Pavlik and seems that he can hurt you with a number of weapons that he posses. I wouldnt mind seeing them in the ring with each other in the near future.

Exactly, I agree with IntentionalButt as well. I should say too that it's a huge stretch for me to use the word "angle" when referring to Pavlik or Kessler..

LOL, yeah. When I first showed up I was accused me of being pro-Mexican because I picked Margarito over Cotto. Then people thought I was racist toward African/ African American fighters because I took positions against Paul Williams and Joshua Clottey, now I'm Anti-White because I've said things against Calzaghe.. Let's just cut the nonsense.
