Ok well now youre pretending Kessler has the abilities of a prime Roy Jones timing wise.. which he doesnt. Kessler is very fast as you say but this clouds your vision in certain areas....Technically, both work behind a superb jab to set up their power punches. Pavlik and Kessler both have a good sense of distance but this is where Pavlik is more versatile. Kessler is much more comfortable at his determined distance. Pavlik can box well at distance and fight very well on the inside. Kessler in my opinion puts his puches together abit better

Hopefully I didnt compare him to a prime Jones = go home Calzaghe.
In my opinion the best fighter in SMW´s brief history.

Your argument is, as I see it coincidental. Kessler is very (too) cautious at times. The chance of being timed with something evil you dont see is way bigger inside. If you like Kessler are a risk averse person, why fight inside if you win comfortably from outside. He never seemed to have problems on the inside against Calzaghe.

When you mentioned Roy you actually stressed my point, Kesslers defence is due to his speed advantage and unwillingness to take risk, way better than Pavliks.
You cannot see speed as solely agressive or defensive.
Roys defense, in his glory days, were totally dependig on reflexes and speed. Some say that Kessler has way to little head movement, but hey, I will say it again he is not in the habbit of getting hit, Pavlik is.

To me good defense is basically very simple, though agreed, some can make an artform out of it, if you dont get hit much - Well, then you have a good defense, might look robotic - **** that!

Apart from that if you dont see Kessler as a good technical boxer, far better than Pavlik (Pavlik is a great and relentless finisher, but that is something else), then I guess there is nothing I can do about it. If you dont see it, you dont see it;)

    Kessler has a superior jab.
Kessler has the more solid overall fundamentals technically.
Kessler is quicker, handspeed and overall movement.
    Kessler has a better defence.
    Kessler has better footwork.
    Kessler is stronger.
    Kessler has a better chin.
Kessler has superior ring generalship as seen by complete domination over comparable opposition.
Kessler is a more natural counterpuncher.

Pavlik has a better work-rate (at the expense of other areas)
    Pavlik has better stamina.
Pavlik probably has a little more power.
Pavlik is a better body puncher (Kessler's is non-existent)
    Pavlik is a better finisher.
Pavlik is a better come forward fighter.

Even on variety of offence (both limited)
Even on adaptability mid-fight (both yet to display it)

Overall, Kessler excels in more areas, and more of the crucial areas in my opinion.

this is a no brainer, Kessler clearly

i know the poll is lopsided but ill bet you if this poll was made before the hopkins fight Pavlik would be winning

Good post, but I would love to hear how Kessler has better defense, primarily.

    Is Kessler's body punching underrated?

I wonder what the result would have been prior to the Pavlik-Hopkins fight.

Kessler by a ****ing mile. He does literally EVERYTHING better. The only advantage Pavlik has is power, but every technical aspect of the sport and Kessler is better. Kessler also has more than enough power to stop Pavlik and a solid chin.

I said it months back and I'll keep saying it until they hopefully fight, Kessler would dismantle Pavlik in brutal fashion.
