Pedro Pena was so avoided that he had to quit boxing.

Your point stands. Aparently Gans was willing to give him a title fight in principle but Langford couldn't make weight.

Of course when Langford was no longer a teenager challenging pound for pound greats, sudenly nobody wanted to fight him.

Thats what Reg Gutteridge said happened at Marylebone,on Feb 11th, 1947. Maybe he was lying eh?
    Gutteridge called Gilroy" workmanlike".

Mention Cocoa Kid. Reading an account from the Brooklyn Eagle of his "loss" to Pete Mead sooo very late in his incredible career. Its wasn't a loss, he had Mead eating leather!

Jackson was definitely avoided by many of the greats and rightly so. He would have beaten quite a few of them.

I dont think that Sam Langford is the answer. He got plenty of shots at the coloured title and had no trouble fighting McVey, Jeanette, Wills, fulton etc, all of whom were some of the best fighters of his time. Johnson ducked him, but he did also fight and beat him. Dempsey ducked him early, but really, a Dempsey Lanford fight was not much of a possibility. I think that there are other fighters with just as good a case as sam (unless we limit it to which fighter was ducked by the champion).

Some of the guys i would throw out there would be:

John L Sullivan: Everyone wanted the world title, but not many wanted to meet John L to do it. He challenged all comers (early in his reign) and only the very bravest accepted.

Vitali Klitchsko: Strange as it may seem, he has been considered one of the top 2 for most of his career. Yet, his biggest challenger Wlad will always duck him (works both ways, i know). His next biggest challenger (usually the guy who holds one of the other belts, over the years has been guys like Ruiz, Valuev, Chageav, Byrd, Brewster etc have all sat on their belts and ducked him. The best contenders in the world throughout his reign - Golota, Haye, Chambers, etc have all avoided him and taken the route of an easier title belt. His biggest name and money fights available - Lewis Rematch, Tyson, Holyfield, Tua, Toney have all either failed to give him fights (or rematches) and/or lost important fights to far lesser opponents at critical times. When i think about it, i think Vitali is the answer.

    Donovan "Razor" Ruddock

Lewis, Tyson and Morrison were the only brave ones from the 90's that fought Ruddock, and Lewis caught him when he was unfocused and underprepared, and Morrison caught him in the midst of a near asthma attack. None of the champions, Holyfield, Bowe, Moorer, Seldon, Oliver McCall, Bruno, and others chose not to step in the ring with him.

    Charley Burley also deserves mention.

Your mother's **** has been avoided for a while given men don't want to risk the rubber splitting and ending up having to pay Child Support for a flid such as yourself.
