I like Cotto a lot, but to say he is the COMPLETE fighter is a bit strong. He is far from being one-dimensional - but there are a few kinds of fighters that he has yet to be tested against at the top level.

That said, he is going about it the right way by ticking those boxes (tomato can Gomez excepted) by going for Margarito next.

I actually think you are correct in this, but I also think a fighter should be judged on the way he fights, not on the way he can fight. Having said that, I don't think that Mayweather will run into those Roy Jones type problems if he fights until he starts to slow down.

Funny, Jones is technically better than he used to be as he continues to fight on past his best.

Vernon Forrest has a strong case here.
Power, Boxing ability, Great Tech, Does not run, Good Chin.
His style is nightmares for most, hence why he has been overlooked
all these years. (That Bum shoulder was a blessing for alot of fighters)

Yes, Mayweather is well on the slide; he's still very good though; soon Cotto will take over as the most complete and the best.

Tough call......I can see a couple fighters in this category.

    My picks at the moment.

    Marquez/Cotto
    Dawson
    Floyd
    Calderon
    Mijares
    Gamboa
    Rafael Marquez
    Cunnigham
Vernon Forrest *Great catch by an earlier poster*

    Honorable Mention:
    Calzaghe
    Haye
    Chris John
    Juan Diaz

I mean we are focusing on textbook fighting and not the best fighters at the moment....Like McGrain mentioned earlier, there's a big difference.

I wouldn't say Floyd is on the slide, far from it IMO.

Calzaghe is a good shout, though rather unorthodox.

PBF hasn't been the same fighter he once was (at his peak) for 2-3 years now...:-(

barrera hands down. hes the most complete boxer-puncher of this era. he can shift comfortably between styles. he can rough you from the inside and he can also rip you into pieces from the outside

Nice choice but I'm thinking this is more of an active list, from what I understand the great Barrera is retired. But solid choice, though Barrera sort of lacked in the defense department when to offesnsively focused....but the ability to move his head was there.

i heard hes coming out of retirement and wants to fight either pac or casa. as to his lacking in defense when too offensively focused. i think everybody else does, especially when your offense is all about inside fighting (morales III). the tendency is for you to be countered most of the time. but when barrera picks his places in the ring and fights from the outside, thats when his defense is superb (salud, hamed, juarez)

    It's clearly Mayweather.

Pointing out flaws he has at 147 (Lack of combos, lessened power etc) do not mean he's not the most complete fighter. Lets put all the others guy mentioned 3 weights above their original weight and lets see how they get on.

the barrera of super featherweight is a master craftsman, a more complete boxer puncher compared to his bantamweight version. :good
