Who is the most overated British fighter currently active?

I think it is too early to judge him, much like Cleverly.

Both have had one decent win (Morrison and Oakey) then been fed a succession of Glass Jawed, slow, small, feather fisted joke opponents.

Stick them in against someone capable and see where we go from there.

 

Mazallan, How can the lad win. He has gone the traditional route which people complain nobody does nowadays. Has won the British, Commonwealth and European Belts and has had plenty of tough fights. I for one think he deserves to be knocking on the door for a world title soon mate

Yep, I sent him a message on here advising him to go for Chavez Jnr a few moths back ha ha I think beating him would give him a hell of a lot of exposure over in the US

 

I totally disagree hatton was overrated....he lost to the very 2 best fighters at the time, and quite possibly the best of the era......hatton owned the 140 division for nearly 4 years, and beat everybody that was put in front of him and won with the exception of mayweather and manny.....you can make a case for calzaghe being 10X more overrated then hatton....

 

Whilst I agree with you Jeff that Calzaghe is 10x more overated than Hatton, I think Hatton was slighlty overated just by the fact so many picked him to beat Floyd/Manny

 

hatton was never the best, and nobody that was realistic said hatton could be the best of the decade...hatton and tszyu 20 years from now will be looked at as the best 140 pounders from the 90's-00's and the way hatton's resume looks in terms of wins and loses will far hold up overtime of calzaghe....i think as the years pass hatton will get a favorable look by historians, and calzaghe will decline by the way the historians look at him....

as for froch,he is underated,he will beat pavlik i think,he is SO overated that pavlik fellow,and abraham,well,typical robotic german fellow,struggles againts chaps who can take a whack,and thats exactly frocks kinda guy.

TFFP a lot can be said and a lot has been said about Calzaghe career both negative and positive. The truth for me as someone who has been "unfortunate" to watch Calzaghe's career is that after so many years and so many defences I really don't know how good, great or average Calzaghe really was. Whatever one says about Carl Froch the way he is going we will not have that conundrum before his time is out. Perhaps Calzaghe was a brillant fighter badly managed. I just cannot put him in the equation alongside the likes of Ali, Ray Robinson, Arguello, Chavez, Whittaker, Joe Louis, Duran, Azumah Nelson et al. To be honest I don't think I can rank him higher than RJJ, Toney, Nunn, McCallum and the like.

 

I was at Munroes fight in Dublin before Xmas and he looks a big boxer for the Super Bantamweight division but theres something about him that I am not too sure about. He needs a test against a top fighter in the top 10 before he fights for a World title. A good fight for him would be against Michael Hunter the former European and World title fight boxer. It would prove a lot to see if he is ready to make the next step.
