    Nope, what?

He had a great thudding jab, from a huge reach.

He was deceptively fast and could throw great combinations.

    He had very good power.

    He was a great finisher.

He was a very dangerous HW.

He’d have found success in any HW era.

He was slower than Lewis and Wlad, and comically slower than Tyson. He weighed less than Tyson and was dwarfed by Lewis and Wlad. He never proved that he could compete at the level of modern world class heavyweights, but he did get knocked out in one by Ali, quit against Ali, and got knocked out by some guy named Leotis.

It would be fairer to say he might beat Tua or Sam Peter.

Why do you comment on things that you have no knowledge of?

It just makes you look silly.

This is a really difficult question, especially if you have to decide on one name.
But here I will try with Vitali and I am not saying that I am right, but that I do not know enough about the topic.
I decided because I saw suggestions that Vitali could enter HW ATG 10... based on what?

He beat some light heavyweights who didn’t drain to 175. I probably know more about Liston than you.

Two time champ with ten or so defenses is better than some who are plopped into top tens. Better old guy comeback than Foreman too.

We’ve had many debates over the years, and you’ve said some crazy things. But this above has to be right up there.

“I probably know more about Liston than you do”

    Ha!

    Are you actually being serious??

    Unbelievable.

You never cease to amaze me.

You don’t know anything about Liston.

    Look at what you’ve written.

Saying that he’d have been dwarfed by Wlad and Lennox etc.

Let me remind you of the following:

Liston was practically the same size as Hasim Rahman. Remember him? The guy who knocked out Lennox.

He was practically the same size as Oliver McCall. Remember him?

He was practically the same size as Ray Mercer.

He was practically the same size as Evander Holyfield.

    Can you join the dots?

    Or do you need assistance?

McCall and Rahman both beat Lennox.

    Mercer almost beat Lennox.

Evander beat Mike twice, practically weighing what Liston did in many of his fights.

Not only was Liston comparable in height and weight, he also had a bigger reach and a better jab.

The other obvious point, is that styles make fights.

Yes, Liston would be dwarfed in height. But it’s how they’d have matched up on the night stylistically which matters the most.

Wlad hit the deck 13 times in his career, and was knocked out by much lesser guys than Liston.

No, Wlad and Lennox were not faster than a prime Liston. They were just fast for their size.

Yes, he was slower than Mike, as was everyone who Mike faced, such as Evander, who again, beat Mike twice.

Your knowledge on this subject is highlighted by you having compared Liston to a crude C level guy like Sam Peter. And that’s hilarious for 2 reasons:

    1. It’s absolute nonsense.

    2. Wlad barely survived Sam Peter.

Keep on telling us all how knowledgeable you are though, by noting his 2 fights with Ali, as well as his knockout loss right at the end of his career.

You left out the part where Wlad defended the heavyweight title for a decade straight without hitting the deck, whereas Liston managed one successful defense over a blown up light heavy that he’d already beaten and went on to lose by stoppage to an Ali who never dusted anyone if the first round.

I read The Devil And Sonny Liston. Just sticking to facts though. Slow, little Sonny was never the size of Rahman or McCall.

    Oh dear.

    1. A blown up MW in Byrd was one of Wlad’s best ever wins.

    2. A blown up CW in Haye was also one of Wlad’s best ever wins.

    3. Liston was already way past his prime for Ali.

    4. The rematch was highly controversial and will debated for hundreds of years.

    5. It goes without saying that Ali was one of the greatest, if not THE greatest HW of all time.

    6. Yes, Liston was the size of Rahman and McCall.

    7. Liston wasn’t in any way slow in his prime.

No idea. He became this head to head monster after getting stopped by an old Lennox in 6. He is ridiculously overrated.

I’ve also read on here that prime Foreman would only lose to Liston and Ali. That’s wild.
