I did and I stand by it. Peak Liston was an awesome prize fighter with very strong boxing skills as well as massive punching power. I have him eighth ahead of Tyson and Lewis and behind Ali, Louis, Holmes, Johnson, Marciano, Foreman and Frazier.

I choose not to call people overrated. I think some folks are put on too high a pedestal by some of their most rabid acolytes. For example, three of the people in my heavyweight ATG Top 10 ... Marciano, Frazier and Tyson ... are IMO placed on a shade too high a pedestal by some. At the same time, I think people like Louis (here lately, I don't know if it's something in the water or what), Holmes, Foreman and Liston among heavyweights aren't put on a high enough pedestal.

    Size:

    Height, reach and weight.

I said that he was practically the same size.

He was practically the same height, bar an inch.

    He had a bigger reach.

McCall was sometimes only around 10 pounds plus heavier in his biggest fights.

Rahman was heavier, but he wasn’t in peak condition, where he carried excess weight. (body fat)

Mercer was only 10-15 pounds heavier in his biggest fights.

Being 10-15 pounds heavier is nothing.

So Liston was practically the same size as Rahman, McCall and Mercer.

He was also the same weight as Evander in many of his fights.

    The point is:

All of those guys were of a similar size, and all of them either struggled with, or were beaten by, lesser fighters.

I’m bigger than Tyson if we’re going by height and reach, forget the fifty or sixty pounds he has on me.

    Brilliant.

This is the HW division, where YOU have stated that height is important.

YOU have stated that in your previous posts.

    Yes, height is important.

    So is reach.

    So is weight.

In terms of height and reach, Liston was practically the same size.

In terms of weight, he weighed the same as Evander did, and only 10-15 pounds less than the others did in their biggest fights.

    Do you understand?

He was PRACTICALLY the same size.

    Your silly analogy means nothing.

He was PRACTICALLY the same size as Rahman, McCall and Mercer, but with a BIGGER reach.

He was PRACTICALLY the same size as Evander, but with a BIGGER reach, where he weighed the SAME.

Evander beat Mike twice and everyone else we know of.

Lennox barely beat Mercer and was beaten by both Rahman and McCall.

Sonny was faster than both Rahman and McCall.

He possessed a much better jab.

He had much better technical skills.

He was also very powerful and a ruthless finisher.

A prime Sonny Liston would have been a very dangerous opponent to Lennox, Mike and Wlad.

If you can’t understand that, then you better go and watch The Tour De France.

    It may suit you better.

McCall did quit once like Liston, but he never was knocked out, much less in one, like Liston. He also beat better fighters than Liston.

Probably Lomachenko and then Tyson for me. Well, Loma not anymore perhaps, but he was talked about as the best of all time with only a handful of good wins, which I think is unique in boxing history. Tyson is still talked about by quite a few as the best ever and I can't come to think of anyone who is with as little to show for it in comparison.

Without using boxrec, name five contenders who were beaten by five different contenders who Liston beat.

WTF does that have to do with what I’ve said?

    You also haven’t applied context.

Again, the Ali fight was highly controversial.

    You know that.

    McCall caught Lewis.

    It happens.

    Rahman also caught Lewis.

So you could say that Rahman also has a win better than any win of Liston’s.

In the grand scheme of things, it’s not that relevant though.

McCall was never better than a prime Liston.

Also, I’m sure that you don’t rate a 95’ Holmes too highly.

I am not going to argue about it, I said what I said and stand by it. You disagree with me. So be it.

All the below were in the end of year HW ring magazine top 10's in the same year of the fights they lost to a Liston victim, as mentioned below:

    1) Willie Pastrano was beaten by future Liston victim Roy Harris in 1957.
    2) Mike DeJohn was beaten by future Liston victim Nino Valdes in 1958.
    3) Alex Miteff lost to Eddie Machen in 1960, 4 months before Liston beat Machen.
    4) Ingo Johannson lost to future Liston victim x 2 Floyd Patterson in 1961.
    5) Doug Jones lost to former Liston victim Zora Folley in 1963.

Name 5 different fighters who were ranked top 10 by Ring magazine at any point in a year they lost to 5 different Deontay Wilder victims.
