Agreed. He was a mauler and strong physical guy. But rightly or wrongly, I think he benefitted a ton from that era with so many guys showing up with their B game on fight night. Lets face it---why get razor sharp for a Berbick? So they didn't. And Trevor was good enough to decision these guys. Kind of like a chisora or a snipes====who ever got 100% for those guys? But aside from Holmes, none of those guys at the time had very much of a B game. more like they dropped to C. And I think, Berbick benefitted from that and he was a guy that showed up with his A game==as limited as it was. But Tyson was going to be 100% for a title opportunity. And with that fast start of his and youth, Trevor was going to be in there with a guy and his A game for a change. And a hitter--which I do not like berbick's style against at all. And he sure did not face the hitters
Ali. He called himself "The Greatest", but I never viewed him that way. He was top notch, had all the qualities necessary to be great, but not the greatest of all-time as so many fans repeat over and over.
Mayweather Pac Holmes Canelo Marciano None of the above are top 30 all-time. Holmes would not make my top 5 heavyweights. Mike Tyson used to be overhyped but that has calmed down in recent times. Ali is only overrated when people claim he is the greatest ever rather than just the greatest heavyweight.
The way I have him ranked so high is actually a privilege and an honor for him because of all the competition throughout the ages, champions who held the title way longer and who have far more defenses. and Ray did nothing at middleweight If you want to rank high, you got to show us some action and stop resting on your laurels
People say 80s are weak because they are casuals and trying to discredit tyson,Holmes most of them are cassius clay fans 80s era are Most skillful era with 90s almost everyone has good footwork with Jab people who follow boxing know how good era 80s is also Most talented era ever Foreman would struggle in 80s he ducked tucker and always struggled with skilled boxers H2H Cooney>Norton Tyson>Frazier Holmes=Ali Foreman>Bruno Spinks>Patterson Whitsperoon> Jimmy Young Ruddock>Shavers
Rocky Marciano, Jack Dempsey, Gene Tunney. None of these guys would even be ranked in the top 1000 if they boxed today. Mike Tyson fanboys are bad and Tyson was overrated but he still had some level of skills. Tyson Fury is also overrated. He beat a washed up Wladimir Klitschko and then beat a no talent Deontay Wilder and according to Brits that makes him the best heavyweight of all time.
Boxrec's current 1000 ranked heavyweight has a 0-2 record, and was stopped by a 166Ib fighter on his debut in his last fight
In the 90`s most fighters relied on athleticism, old time fighters were better tutored on averge depending on how far you go back, however there were so many fantastic fighters in the 80`s.
Some level of skills lol Tyson was te most skilled and best tutored heavyweight in his history, the only modern heavy with that level of skill is Usyk, Ortiz is very skilled by Tyson would have destroyed him.
