They are not even the highest in the US.

According to Forbes.com it goes something like this.

    1. Manchester United $1.87 billion
    2. Dallas Cowboys $1.61 billion
    3. Washington Redskins 1.538
    4. NY Yankees $1.5 billion
    5. Real Madrid 1.353

Now this is only discussing value and being more valuble doesn't neccisarily mean that you are more popular or more recognized. I am sure that real madrid is more well known worldwide than the washington redkins but lets be real. Little Umfoofoo in Africa doesn't have any money to spend.

Hmm thats Odd I would think that the top baseball teams would be the most valuable because of the ticket sales with 81 home games played each season and seven game series for playoffs.

Baseball isn't as popular though. The Yankees are the only MLB team worth over $1 billion whereas there is 19 NFL teams over that mark.

And for you euros that hate everything american and balk at the notion that the NFL is the most powerfull and valuble franchise in the world There is only 4 soccer teams worh over $1billion (Machester United, Real Madrid, Arsenal ad Liverpool)

But imagine how much richer those teams and other high profile teams would be if all the people in Africa, Asia and South America running around in their shirts actually bought real merchandise, rather than fakes!

No doubt and I admitted that in my previous post. Value is not an indicator of popularity. NFL is richer because for starters America is ****ing Huge. Our population is about equal to that of the entire UK, Spain, France, Italy and Germany combined. Secondly we have money to spend. I know that Europe does as well but like you said, little ****ers in Africa don't have a whole lot and so them being fans or following the sport does not add one bit to the teams value.

I think revenue is quite a good indicator, better than overall value of franchise imo. The difference between soccer and the NFL is large, especially when you take into account what I previously stated about fake merchandise, which is a major loss of income to soccer teams around the world.

    2008 (all figures US$)

    1. Redskins $327m
    2. Patriots $282m
    3. Cowboys $269
    4. Texans $239
    5. Eagles $237

    1. Real Madrid $576m
    2. Man Utd $512m
    3. Barcelona $487m
    4. Bayern $465m
    5. Chelsea $424m

For sure not Tiger Woods, maybein the USA, but not in the world. Go to Europe and ask any woman or girl who's Tiger Woods, she will have no idea. Unlike Michael Jordan who's known everywhere.

The most popular boxer is Ali or Tyson, I agree about it. For me personally, the biggest fighter and athlete nowadays is Lance Armstrong. Dude, who has balls cancer, won the illness, came back to sports won 7 times in a row the hardest cycling event (Tour de France), everyone tries to prove him that he took some steroids etc, but he's clean as a tear, has taken nothing and outclasses everyone. Wondering if he's still strong enough to win this year after 3 years break, he's 37 now and is after the injury that happened 2 months ago. Crossing fingers anyway.

So many people dont know what a "fighter" is because they are calling out golfers and b ballers. Golfrs and B ballers are not fighers, are you kidding me?

The most popular figher out there today is either Pacman or Ali, take your choices.

I could go to USA and get Mayweather though.

The best active fighter out there, though is Mayweather because of his skills and his grandiose self promotion.

I want to see Mayweather back and beyond, the guy is magic in the ring when he fights.

Did you not read the opening post?!

    There are 3 questions:

    1. Fighter;

    2. Athlete; and

    3. Team.

I did not read the opening post, you are correct.

However, as this has been posted in the GENERAL forum of a boxing site and the fact that boxing is the hardest game out there I do not care.

I do not change my mind...

it is Floyd Mayweather who is the most popular fighter in the world on average..

I f I was asking Germany it would be Wlad Klitschko though! If I asked the other 200 countries I would not get the same answer, but I would get more Mayweather than anything else, with Pacman second.

They probably just got confused as Manchester City now have the richest owners in the world - a member of a ruling Arab family that is worth a $1 trillion... Crazy money.
