I just had a random thought that most top boxers are assholes, so I’m curious which boxer with the highest ring IQ and elite skills is also genuinely nice? Like a IRL Ippo Makunouchi

GGG and Manny Pacquiao come to mind

The answer is Ezzard Charles. Followed by Archie Moore, then idk, Alexis Arguello or something.

As nice guys go, Floyd Patterson is tough to beat. I like his response when asked why he backed off rather than go for the kill against Terry Daniels.

"I stopped and stepped back because it looked like he was in agony. A few times before he had said things which made me think he was disgusted with his performance. I just wanted to assure him he was doing OK."

I mean, sportsmanship is one thing, but I've never heard of anyone else actively trying to encourage his opponent in the middle of a fight.

We saw Floyd Patterson in raging anger wanting to kill somebody only once during his entire career, the rematch with Ingo. And the result was stunning (literally for Ingo).

He had incredible skills, if only he'd had a little streak of viciousness in him.

Patterson was way to nice of a guy to be a boxer. He probably had a good amount more ability for greatness in him if he'd had a mean junkyard dog in him. With those quick hands and that sweet left hook...

Eder Jofre. Have never heard a bad word against the man. Also just happens to be one of the greatest of all time.
Just noticed your profile pic mate :risas3:

16 years ago today Vernon Forrest was murdered. Vernon was known as a very good person that did a lot of charity work. Fantastic fighter.

I think Floyd was pretty nasty to Muhammad Ali: said he wasn’t an American (even though he won a gold medal representing the U.S. in the Olympics and, as he pointed out, paying his taxes to America). Patterson also attacked Ali’s religion, which is his constitutionally guaranteed right in America.

(Kind of ironic that Floyd said once Ali lost and wasn’t on top, the Muslims would abandon him. Yet Floyd is the one who had Frank Sinatra turn his back on Floyd when he lost to Ali; and John Kennedy turned his back on Floyd when he failed to beat Liston.)

So noted but I was talking more about him in the ring than outside it.

Floyd paid for talking smack about Ali but at the end of the day when the fighting stopped they were OK with each other.

I’m not saying he’s the biggest tool of all time, but to say your opponent from Louisville is not an American and that you’re fighting to bring the title back to America and insult his religious choice … you also aren’t the nicest.

I like Richard. He fully appreciated the shot Ali gave him, gave it his all and then used the proceeds to purchase his long desired pub - though, unfortunately, I believe it went bust at some later stage.

Old man Duran wasn't too bad of a person I'd say,he knew his time was up and decided to live every single of his punches and fights.
