I'm talking only offensive skills here. When we think about defensive skills only, the most skilled fighters of the last 17 years are probably FMJ, JMM and Hopkins. But what about offensive fighters. We have guys like GGG, but we never really got to see him in his prime against the elite fighters. It's a lot of speculation.

Is it perhaps Marco Antonio Barrera? Here is a guy who wasn't very athletically inclined for an ATG. Compared to his contemporaries. He didn't hit nearly as hard as JMM, Morales, Pac or Hamed. His speed of hand and foot were far behind those besides JMM. His stamina wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. His chin may have been the worst of that bunch. He wasn't as particularly skilled defensively as some other great fighters. Yet despite all of that there is a very strong argument to be made that he's the 2nd best and 2nd greatest fighter of those 5.

Look at him in the pocket. The most fluid combination puncher I can think of this century. The best body puncher of this century. Perhaps the best dual wielder of this century. The dude pretty much schooled Morales twice despite giving away virtually every physical advantage. He schooled Hamed the much more athletic fighter. He made a good account of himself against Marquez despite being well past his prime.

The only real blemish he has after the Jones losses was his fight against Pac. But that had nothing to do with lack of skill. Pac just physically overwhelmed him. When MAB hit Pac, the power wasn't enough to deter Pac. That's the difference between him and when Marquez and Morales fought Pac. Those guys are power punchers, especially Marquez. When they hit you, you stopped going forward. Didn't matter who you were.

Chocolatito. It was less obvious at 115 because he was finally meeting guys bigger than him who could take his power and dish it back, and it was then that his offensive style ultimately became his downfall. But at 105, 108 and 112 his educated and measured pressure, methodical footwork and ruthless combination punching was what got him into P4P contention.

In ten years time I think Loma will have changed my mind though.

Don't think his punch variety is top top class.

Ok shout me down but I'm going for Wlad who used his offense defensively and offensively if that makes sense.

An ATG jab that would easily keep opponents off him and use it to attack seamlessly, opening up opponent for a sublime right hand.

His offence was based on low risk and so difficult to defend against which is why I think in technical terms it's up there with the best.

I'd say Pac but he wasn't all that technical. A lot of his talent was how unconventional he was plus he was a physical monster in his prime. Barrera was a lot more technical if I recall correctly. Gonzalez was pretty technical too. Shame he just imploded this year. He had like an 83% KO rate down in the flyweight class. Then maybe GGG.

Without a doubt, Manny Pacquiao. Guys trained almost exclusively to cope with and/or neutralize his offense (particularly that straight left).
