Bob Fitzsimmons often gets overlooked, because he was a small heavyweight, even by the standards of his era. Look at his record; he basically cleaned out the era, apart from Jeffries. He not only beat all the contenders, he brutally knocked them out. Results are results at the end of the day!
Good choice. Patterson sometimes gets sold short, because there were people who could flatten him head to head, but a closer look at his record shows something interesting. He was ranked in the top ten over a longer period than any other heavyweight champion in history, and he was beating ranked opposition over this period. That is no small feat, even for a great heavyweight, and he didn't have the best style to be doing this. He was a consummate professional, and one of the most consistent champions in history.
