Despite some of them trying to imitate none of them were anything like him effectiveness wise and certainly didn't reach anything like his heights. Holmes was far different and the 80's heavies were no-where near as good. Ali pre exile was faster than all of them and almost unbeatable.
Probably Nicolino Locche. You'd never know by just looking at him..balding, barrel chested, short armed, not terribly athletic looking...a chain smoker to boot...that he was the master defensive genius that he was. How he, like his great compatriot Carlos Monzon, could effortlessly go 15 rounds and clown a great fighter like Pambele Cervantes and so many other good fighters...and utterly master, bamboozle and outclass a dangerous, huge punching champion like Paul Fuji, and have over 100 fights and never getting smashed and ko'ed. Only 3 losses...3 on points (two early on in his career) and a cut eye tko when he was basically done as a fighter.
Yes, Augustus was truly unique as well, and I always enjoyed seeing him fight...always rooted for him.
I agree. I can't stand him, but he broke all the rules regarding how to box. He could deck a guy with an arm punch while moving backwards!
Nicolino Locche Bob Fitzsimmons Ray Robinson Joe Frazier Pernell Whitaker Naseem Hamed Sergio Martinez Wlad Klitschko
They weren't as good or as fast as him but more than enough similarities to rule him out as a candidate for "most unique," imo. Maybe during his time but no after all of the copy cats.
Lots of good names....I'll go with Paul Spadafora. Fought the same way I would have fought...slap, slap and run away. He had NO POWER. He made Paulie Malignaggi look like Mike Tyson, but man he could box.
mrkool.....unique means one of a kind,,,,,it does not mean anything else it is not a matter of opinion.....check out strunk and white......heavyweights......
