if you closely follow boxing, which you probably don't, you would understand that many great fighters are never the same after being ko'd.

Donald curry, jones jr. and vargas are good examples of this

some fighters never fight again(lipsey/spinks).

taylor catches so much hate on here its rediculous. the guy was a great athlete and a solid fighter. hype jobs don't fight hopkins and wright that close. and just because pavlik froch and abe knock you out...that doesnt necessarily mean you have a glass jaw. he took pavlik's right for 7 straight rounds and froch and aa certainly didnt drop him with the first meaningful punch they landed.

 

I was always a big Taylor fan, dude was a beast and didn't duck anyone. Such a shame that he was within inches of Froch and Pavlik, that could have gotten his career near HOF honors.

 

A lot of fans demand fighters to fight the best after the best, that's exactly what Taylor did but he doesn't get the recognition he deserves, very good fighter. Hopefully he hangs them up though, I was shocked that he managed to get a license after that Abraham fight.

 

A few things have always bothered me about Taylor is the “what if” factor. Pavlik was done in the 2nd round of that first fight. Taylor was bombs away and Kelly had no legs. Pavlik survived at least in major part because Taylor is a poor finisher. What does a TKO 2 change in the path of Jermain Taylor?

Furthermore, Taylor was up fairly easily against Froch. I’m not saying it was completely one sided, but I had Taylor just needing to not get stopped going into the last two rounds. He still would have won on my and the official cards in the 12th had he gotten to his feet and survived after the knockdown. What if he were to have just ran for the 12th and didn’t get caught? Or, alternatively, what if he had gotten up and used that ref delay when Smoger would have him walk forward and pick up his gloves to finish the fight and win?

Finally, the Abraham fight. Six seconds left. What do we say to Taylor if he lost a decision to Abraham?

Even though it seems like a lot, there is so little separating Taylor from his current borderline gate keeper status to P4P elite. If I could pick one out of all the careers in boxing to hit re-do on, I’d pick Taylor. It is a classic example of a “if he knew then what he knows now” scenario.

Exactly. Taylor lost twice to Hopkins - but HBO got him those bogus verdicts, and RIPPED OFF an ATG of victories he should have had.

They also ripped off Winky Wright of a victory too to build this guy up.
