Great thread, I'd say Jack Sharkey or my man Maher.

And George Godfrey? Might be better than Tunney, Sharkey, Wills, Dempsey? Are the 'cuffs doing him a favour in our mythical life?
    PS I've had a few..........

Head to Head the most underrated heavyweight is Riddick Bowe. In his short prime he showed that he had both the ability to fight from the outside and inside. He also showed a very good chin, which when it comes to heavyeights could make all the difrance head to head.

Someone's already mentioned him on this thread, but Tommy Morrison fits the bill really well. He's mostly known as a big punching great white hope with vulnerable whiskers, but his boxing skills and hand speed were quality to. His win over George Foreman is a bit underrated, its one of Tommy's most disciplined performances, he was in and out with great combos and his movement was top notch. Even Michael Moorer couldn't dismantle George like that, though obviously his gameplan was a bit different. And that left hook of his was some weapon, one of the finest the divison's ever had.

I rarely, if ever, see Max Baer as being someone who could beat any of the ATGs head-to-head. But he seems to have the power, the stamina and the durability to have a chance to upset most anyone -- at least a puncher's chance.

I'd rate him as my candidate for single most underrated head-to-head heavyweight.

Another good candidate. Baer was a beast.

    Jimmy Young.

Smart boxer, good movement, not a lot of power but could give anyone a tough evening.
