I doubt he takes the cake, but Bob Pastor is pretty underrated.

Greg Page doesn't seem to get his due IMO.

At his best he was a nightmare but unfortunately for a multitude of reasons didn't deliver consistently.

    Marvis Frazier. He could fight!

He beat Tim Witherspoon, Tony Tubbs, Bonecrusher SMith, James Broad, quick Tillis, Jose Ribalta, Joe Bugner ....but all anyone remembers is his fights with Tyson and Holmes.

How many great fighters would lose their step up fight to a great champion after just ten fights? Mike Tyson beat Spinks in one round too.

    Good call.

His style was not crowd pleasing, but he stopped a lot of good contenders from geting to the title.

Bob Pastor is great call largely forgotten, or only remembered for his two defeats at the hands of Louis. Fought and defeated a host of avoided fighters in the 40s.

    Michael Spinks.

He would have been hell on a lot of people.

While we're at it, Tubbs entered the Tyson fight with a very good record, got knocked out in one round, and later would nearly beat Bowe. Another underrated fighter for the same reason (and for being fat).

Of all the people Joe Louis fought, Pastor's name probably comes up the least or maybe its just around here that it doesn't. A very accomplished contender with vast depth to his resume.
