We saw an inferior fighter in Ken Norton give Ali trouble while the vastly superior George Foreman who was getting schooled by Ali. Are there any fighters worse than Ken Norton that you believe would give Ali trouble?

    Which Ali? Late 70’s/80s loads.

    60’s - not many.

The worst fighter that could give Ali trouble ? Assuming we’re talking about a prime Ali it
worse fighters than Ken Norton already have. Henry Cooper, Doug Jones, George chuvalo and a few others all gave Ali problems.. but if we’re looking for someone even worse yet then I suppose Jesse Ferguson might have troubled Ali on an off night. Jesse was a tough guy with a good left hook and mixed it up with a lot of good heavyweights. In the end Ferguson would still get stopped but it Ali is having a bad evening then he might hang around and cause problems

Ali only fought only three boxers in the late 70s/early 80s-none of whom were slouches.

Right before Muhammad Ali defended his title against challenger Brian London on August 6 1966, many in the media thought that London had a big chance because of his crowding style and his illegal use of his head butt, London only lasted 3 rounds.

Ali was a guy that did not get in 100% shape for all his fights. He only did it when he needed to and lasted a long time at the top because of it.

So guys like a Mildenberger or a Mac Foster would give him problems. Like magoo said above, a guy like a Jesse Ferguson could easily give him a tough nights work. Or an Alex Stewart. Or a guy like Tony Tubbs. Tony Thompson. Mavrovic.

Vastly superior? In what way? Power and chin, sure. Everything else? Norton was vastly superior.
