He was lined up to fight Richard Garcia in a tune up fight, but Garcia pulled out not long ago.

I guess they just found a replacement at short notice.

I actually read a write-up of his decision loss to highly rated super bantamweight prospect Kohei Oba not too long ago, so his name was still fresh in my mind when it arose as Vic's next opponent.

Besides Oba, he's actually been in with a lot of very good fighters, and has never been stopped:

    Z Gorres
    Silence Mabuza
    Eden Sonsona
    Mbwana Matumla
Simpiwe Vetyeka (had a close bout with Hozumi Hasegawa in challenging for his WBC 118lb title)
Pramuansak Posuwan (had a close bout with Fernando Montiel in challenging for his WBO 115lb title)
    Diosdado Gabi (twice)

If Vic can knock him out, there are bragging rights. That's about it, though. He's certainly not taking on the best available, here.

I don't know much about this guy, but it was supposed to be a tune-up before the Summer Donaire showdown, undisputed super flyweight champ Darchinyan signed his contract weeks ago, but since there was no positive response from Nonaire's team, he moved on. Now it seems he's looking for the Vazquez-Marquez IV winner at 126, which is WAAAY out of his league (his a freaking (supa)flyweight), but he only wants the biggest fights, and as Donaire and Montiel are unavailable (looking to fight each other), Vazquez and Marquez are the next big names, maybe the Perez-Mares winner. Anyway, he's having this fight at 118 and looks like another one to go the distance, this Barcelona dude must have the best chin at BW, 17 losses, but all on points, never been stopped.
