This guy may or may not have existed. I've heard it said that he's just a place holder on Boxrec to pad records. I've never seen footage of him: https://boxrec.com/en/box-pro/5316 The only footage more elusive than Eric Crumble is Sconier's knockdown of Wilder. Rumour is that if you find it and play it, Slenderman will arrive within 24 hours and erase your existence.
Ahhh. The great tradition of muggers becoming world champions continues! Well, except for that of course he wasn't. But if he'd reached his full potential he would have been, no doubt. The dude hit HARD.
'Tire Iron' stole my lunch money as a boy. Fortunately, my uncle Luis Ortiz beat him up and got it back.
It's pretty impressive that a man of 73 like Ortiz was still spry enough to beat up Tire Iron Jones back then.
There is a lot of confusion around Boston Tom McMustache. The Boston Tom of forum legend is the one from Montana by way of East Texas, who migrated to Canada before settling in New York, where he developed a reputation as the toughest guy in Chicago. He is known to insiders as Nonpariel Boston Tom. Many understandably confuse him with Barbados Boston Tom McMustache, who cut his teeth on the European circuit before his tour of Australia, during which he was discovered by a promoter in Philly who moved him to Los Angeles. He gained fame winning state titles in Ohio and New Mexico before conquering the Yukon Territory. There’s also the fact that Nonpariel Boston Tom’s half brother Tim (on his mother’s uncle’s side) occasionally billed himself as Boston Tom to cash in on his brother’s fame. Boston Tim was from Crabapple Cove, Maine, and migrated briefly to Stars Hollow, Connecticut, before he opened a gym in Mayberry, N.C., and had middling success on the South American circuit.
Crumble’s record on boxrec is incomplete. I have it on good authority that he won decisions over Willie Fall, Dusty Trunks and Izzy Real. He allegedly fought Chip Monk to a draw.
I feel like Pareil Jack Dempsey doesn’t get enough recognition. Also, the thread title should say “poorly documented.” Using “mythical” to describe them is just disrespectful to their families.
You don’t hear much about some of the early European legends like: Tomate de Cannes, the great French technician who was also a tightrope walker in the national circus. Or Blacque Jaque Shellacque, who was born in France but toured extensively in northeast Asia before relocating to Miami.
Ali Raymi. 25 wins, 0 losses, 25 KOs. No one was able to find the blueprint to beat this man. Some say he's dead while others believe he faked his own death. Guy was a real enigmatic legend. https://boxrec.com/en/box-pro/561186
Half brother? I thought that was Boston Tim "Twin" McMustache, from Melbourne. (No relation to Thom "Twin" McMustache, from Arizona, who was Tim's identical twin by a different mother and father.)
