Lee Selby became Wales' 12th world champion, following on from Percy Jones, Freddie Welsh, Jimmy Wilde, Howard Winstone, Steve Robinson, Robbie Regan, Joe Calzaghe, Barry Jones, Enzo Maccarineli, Gavin Rees and Nathan Cleverly. Who's the best?
you posted a poll on the main forum asking "calzaghe aside who is the GOAT at SMW" so im guessing this is just another calzaghe love thread .
Yes he is a huge fan of Calzaghe but I think he does it more just to wind up those on the main forum to be honest.
never won a world title but johnny owen is up there and is a welsh hero and as said just another nut hugging thread from a nut hugger
The Mighty Atom, and by some distance. He is not just Wales' finest boxer, but arguably number one pound for pound for the whole of Europe, if you exclude Fitzsimmons.
I'm a big Calzaghe fan but even I have to hand it to Jimmy Wilde. His record was superb and he is considered by many to be the greatest Flyweight of all time. IMO he is not only the best Welsh fighter of all time but also the best British fighter of all time.
Anyone not picking Jimmy Wilde DKSAB. But as I suspect this is just a thread designed to rim Calzaghe and discredit and disrespect a true ATG like Wilde.
You don't even have Jim Driscoll on there?:huh Wilde Driscoll Welsh Calzaghe Winstone None of then others is /was great.
I can remember his last fight with Pintor. I can also remember the crowd throwing cups of p.iss over the poor guy as he was being stretchered away as his life ebbed away. Not true boxing fans, just pure scum.
'Calzaghe aside', i.e. thread has nothing to do with Calzaghe and every respected boxing writer rates 'Zaggers as GOAT Super Middleweight, as they do Holyfield at Cruiser and Lopez at Straw, where the number 2 spot is much more debatable.
How is this thread anything to do with that. Point out the wording in the OP that gives Calzaghe any more credit than Wilde.
It might be Jimmy Wilde. But I voted for Freddie Welsh. I'm more familiar with Welsh's opposition. Great names such as Driscoll, Leonard, McFarland, Wolgast, Ritchie.
