It doesn't. It just helps the Floyd fans with their reasoning to give it back to Floyd.

    "Give it back to Floyd"

As opposed to the Pacquaio fans who believe that fighting guys who lost their recent title fights to other fighters at WW means he should be the lineal champion.

Floyd Mayweather Jr is the lineal WW champion, no ifs, no buts, no maybes. Either that and it's vacated and therefore requires someone to take all four belts to establish lineage again.

Who gives a **** if they think that....

Sorry he retired for a spell whether you like it or not. Would you just give Lewis the HW title back if he came back?

But you can tell yourself that all day. Doesn't make it true. The general consensus is, it's vacant.

Floyd hasn't "retired" following the Mosley fight - which reestablished the lineage as the two top fighters faced each other.

So, while I can buy your argument that Floyd vacated the title the first time around, the second time is horse ****.

I'm not sure if it did to be honest, but they were the 2 best in the division at the time.

Cotto vs Margarito was for the title vacated by Floyd.
    Margarito beat Cotto.
    Mosley beat Margarito.
    Floyd beat Mosley.

There is the second time, stop being a dopey dip**** about it.

Floyd was the last true champion. Then he "retired" and the throne became vacant. Nobody has established true lineage since then.

Cotto was ranked #1 WW, Margarito #4 by the Ring. It could not be for the lineal title.

Therefore Margarito took the #1 - Shane Mosley would have been #2 during their fight. Lineal champion established.

No, Mosley was not ranked #2 WW by the Ring. He was ranked #3 entering into the Margarito fight.

    Cotto-Mosley was a close fight
    Cotto-marg was a competitive fight
    marg-Mosley was a wipeout

Shane had the most convincing victory and best overall performance in that triangle. He deserved to be lineal.
