"Lies, damned lies, and statistics“. Statistics being meaningless is truer in boxing thenmaybe any other sport.

I figure that, were the truly greatest defensive boxer to be uncovered, it would be some completely obscure guy from the 1930s that nobody has ever heard of before. He would have no big names on his record because he would have been such a pain in the ass to fight that nobody would have bothered. And nobody would have wanted to pay to see him fight any way.

The guy who was hardest to hit.

Jones wasn`t as evasive on the ropes compared to someone like Floyd, Griffin caught him often on the ropes with shots but in the rematch couldn`t get him to the ropes because he was being bull rushed by the more powerful Jones.

Whitaker used to get caught more than Floyd.

Maybe he got caught more (not sure this is true anyway), because he was slightly more offensive minded. A counter puncher who fights conservative and does not engage tremendously will certainly get hit less than a quick fighter who used his jab coming forward and was more open to fighting on the ropes or in close. Does not make him better defensively.

Great showman, he clowned his foes, But something I never knew; so if you can answer it. The few videos I've seen of him like this one....he looks like someone has already beaten the eyebrows off him. Who did that to him?

This is true. Pea used to **** about too and clown the opponent, especially when he didn't feel threatened, which sometimes led to him getting clipped unnecessarily. His defensive repertoire was more expansive than Mayweather's. Better reflexes and more varied in his evasive manoevres as well as being more unorthodox, while mostly displaying sound fundamentals other than crossing his feet sometimes. Better opposition too on the whole.

My favorite, most aesthetically satisfying fight to watch, bar none.:beer-toast1::clapclap::thumbsup:
A sparring partner probably knocked the lit cigarette out of his mouth and it hit the eye.
