Yeah, it was more of a hopeful question than a statement. They've been playing the same tune for ages, and I'm sure something will pop up which they can use to justify a lesser opponent. There does genuinely seem to be a lot of frustration around Wilder now though, so I'm not sure how well anyone will take the news if he were to take on another fringe guy.
Hopefully the Parker/Fury winner. Then Ortiz vs Stiverne for WBC mandatory spot. In ideal world the heavyweight division could unified completely in 2 years if Wilder gets that WBO strap alongside the WBC and AJ beats a Vlad.
His out of here, Rybanisky's wallet gunna have to do some serious stretch to get Povetkin out of these mess.
Finny how things work out. Wilder was supposed to have an immediate mandatory title defence, but due to various circumstances, he has yet to have one. Jennings opting to fight Wlad. Povetkin taking an interim fight and later getting busted for PED´s. Wilder getting injured.
He'll have to fight a mandatory, who'll get a positive on a PED test. That will give him a free road to feast on bums for another year.
"Nobody wants to fight me. They already know what the results will be." -- Deontay Wilder during an interview with Showtime in the build up to the Szpilka fight. I, like many others here, believe the statement is backwards and that Wilder is in fact ducking the other top Heavyweights. After beating Washinton, Wilder will probably fight Stiverne again as you say. Although given Wilder'd track record of opponents, I wouldn't be surprised if made a voluntary defence against Seth Mithchell -- while offering the obligatory six weeks' notice for a camp, of course.
