I know I'm in the minority on this, but I still rated Chag #2 in the division. He also did take (a few) more risks than Haye later would... :yep
And Wladimir was a late replacement for Valuev (Chagaev had been training for Valuev). I think Chagaev is an underrated win on Wlad's resume. He's never been knocked down except in that fight.
Not on the night he wasn't. As I said he had already planned on quiting boxing for some religious purposes and was there just to collect a loser check.
Though his skills were still intact he was a little slower & less explosive. Wlad looked the best he's ever been & hasn't been as impressive since, that was his peak performance imo
There is apparently some Muslim rule that says hitting other men in the face and taking shots back for sport is harām (the Boston Marathon bombing mastermind quit training because of this when he fell in with extremists through his mother's influence, reportedly), but I'm not sure which sects or regional cultures it applies to because obviously there are loads of boxers who practice Islam and seem to reconcile it just fine. :conf
It depends whether they are fundamentalist Muslims (who take the Koran literally) or moderate Muslims. It's similar to the difference between fundamentalist Christians (Pentacostal/Baptist, who take the Bible literally) and moderate Christians (Methodist/Anglican). Or, the difference between Very Orthodox Jews (who take the Torah literally) and moderate Reform Jews.
I would say Ibragimov, who never lost and gave Wlad a better fight than Chagaev or Haye did. Iggy retired too soon. IMO, he was better than Povetkin.
Isn't it haram to not take the Koran literally?, I mean they say that the Koran is advanced regardless of time, generation and age.
A lot of Wlad's former opponents were more successful and put up a better fight than Haye did. Brock and Thompson in the first fight come to mind. That is why it is so laughable the Brits nuthug Haye so much the guy ran his mouth for almost 3 years and then didn't even do as good as Calvin Brock :rofl Simply surviving all 12 rounds is moot when you don't engage, back peddle, flop, pose, and feint the whole fight. Several of Wlad's KO victims would have went the distance if they fought the way Haye did.
