Both have gud defences now but I think Pac has better defence with gud footwork.

What are the tougher and more active opponents... Hatton and DLH or prime Clottey with Cotto one eye and prime very active Margarito with ? on his gloves throwing 100 punches per round. Let Manny fight these opponents and Cotto fights Hatton and DLH.:D I bet speed wouldn't be brought in this fight if that was the case. People forget Manny likes to trade, I don't get the speed part, just ask Marquez and I know hes not the fastest guy in boxing and he was able to find Manny with no problem.:good

unfortunately that arent many technically sound and aggressive counterpunchers of marquezs calibre around.

based on their last 3 fights, cotto's defense is worse. he got hit a lot in clottey and margarito fights.

counterpunching is all about negating your opponents attacks so that you can attack while he is more open. marquez is outstanding at doing this and its the perfect foil for my mind if youre also technically proficient.

when marqez is effective you dont notice pacs speed as much because its his landing counters that youll notice more.

I think Cotto has a better technical skill in defence than Pac, but Manny's athletic attributes give him the edge head to head. So I would have to say that even though Cotto may be more skilled technically in defense, Pacquiao uses his better and is harder to hit than Cotto because of his speed, lateral movement, southpaw stance, angles and handspeed/volume of punches.

    Obviously Cotto is worse defensively.

That and the fact he rarely hurts opponents with his right hand are his biggest flaws imo.
