because there are 6 billion people on earth, million is not great for 2010 you cant even compare a million buys to anything say mike tyson or holyfield did in the 90s. with technology 100 times better, there are millions and millions more people who have cable or satellite now...if floyd fought in the 90s, his ppv numbers would be about 100K , or the same as the old TVKO monthly series
Hey stupid **** does keeping the money flowing in keep the people who work in the boxing industry stay there? Those are the people keeping boxing up. It doesn't matter whether they buy his fight cause they love him or they suck on manny's egg roll like you and your family does. Says the ***get who's hero cherry picked the great ghana Joshua Clottey. At least Floyd isn't falsely marketed as an "exciting" fighter only to end up starring in the most boring fight of the decade.
If your friends rarely watch fights and would rather see someone 'tackled so they can't run', then what, realistically, is Mayweather supposed to do?
I think you are missing the point. To the casual sports fan Mayweather = Boring and if Mayweather is the best boxing has to offer, by proxy Boxing = Boring.
You know who is bad for boxing...the fans! By willingly handing over money to boring fighters, by willingly paying for lackluster PPVs, by continuing to support fighters that have no interest in fighting the best... the result is what we have. If the product is not good, stop giving the people responsible for said product money.
Actually taking into account technological advances between era's this makes sense statistically and mathematically. (Dont expect the guy with Tony Montana in avatar to understand:-()
Then you must be stupid... With internet that everyone has and marketing as big as it's ever been... WTF.. We were watching black boxes in the 80s and 90s up until a few years ago.... **** everything I watched on payperview was free... You're prob too young or dumb to understand, prob both...
You are a ******. Doing the most sales in the sport is bad because it's not as high as it "should" be according to your stupid AZZ theory? Every other boxer other than Floyd must be killing the sport, too, since they're selling even less than him. You're so old you can't even think straight anymore.
Let me simplify. The opportunities to sell the fight are ridiculously higher now. If in the 90's you had 100 million households total and sold 1 million fights, that's 1%, right? Now, with the proliferation of digital technology (specifically in Asia and India) a fight has the potential to reach a couple of BILLION households. At the same 1% ratio Holyfield and Tyson were getting, Floyd would need to sell over 200 million PPV buys to consider himself on the same level.
Correction: For some casual fans, Mayweather = Boring. Based on his PPV numbers, it appears Mayweather is consistently able to maintain numerous casual fans AND replace the 'disgruntled' fans with new interested ones. In other words, in spite of your friends' opinions, Mayweather is one of the only boxers on the planet with a growing fanbase.
