Too many to name one. But George Foreman was definitely up there for me which is why I’ve been feeling a little down since yesterday .
Jerry Quarry not even close. A lot of better fighters I also love but no one even close to Quarry. He was an inspiration.
I saw a clip of Willie before he went downhill, vs Hart. He was very impressive and much better than the version Hagler beat.
Forever it was Ali as he got me into boxing but this forum turned me more to Rocky Marciano. Watching his fights and reading up on him made me more of a fan. Truly an odd ball in boxing history. No one should have been his height and weight and reach with so little boxing experience and been that good. Physical freak of nature that he doesn’t get enough credit for.
He might have mellowed out with time, because when I met him in 2003, the night I went to meet Macho Camacho and family thanks to Norm Framheimer, the local writer who published where boxers stayed at when they were in town, Gomez was, to everyone's surprise, me and Framheimer included, there also. And he was super nice to me and my family! (Camacho was even nicer, Camacho was wild in real life!).
If i can only pick one it woulld be Willie Pep. Why? Because he has the best nickname of all time "Will o' the Wisp".
His successor, Willie Pastrano also had a similar, but perhaps less catchy nickname of "Willie The Wisp"
Napoles definitely for me, Napoles is a great fighter the greatest maybe in terms of pure boxing… though I don’t watch him much.
