    BJ Penn

Because he is one of the most skilled fighters in the game
Because he always looks to finish fights
Because he has challenged himself against bigger fighters his entire career.
Becuase he does not put his record before his desire for greatness (like GSP).
Because he takes risks in his matchmaking and in his fights in order to be the best

Randy Couture - possessor of the most advanced strategic mind for MMA and because he can beat everyone else's "best fighters."

Actually GSP is a better gameplanner than Couture. Couture is very limited in his approach. And the list is very long of fighters Randy cannot beat and never could beat. His best win at heavyweight is Tim Sylvia, a fighter Fedor doesn't even get credit for beating.

Actually, GReg jackson is a better game-planner than GSP and Couture is better than them both backed up by the number of heavyweight and light-heavyweight championships hanging on his wall - one of which Jackson nor GSP will ever have. The list of fighters Couture has defeated over the years is longer and more prestigious than GSP's resume that has been filled with contenders but very few champions. Couture's approach is hardly limited instead it is grounded in an understanding of what his strength's are as a mixed martial artist and how to best use them to against his opponent. His understanding of range and the phases of combat is more advanced than almost everyone else in the sport. I wasn't trying to turn this into a Couture vs GSP discussion but you seem to want to take it that way so if I need to keep schooling you on MMA every week then so be it.

Couture's heavyweight victories also included Maurice Smith, Kevin Randleman and Pedro Rizzo long before he fought and dethroned Tim Syvlia. The difference between Fedor and Couture's fight is that Randy beat Tim when he was UFC champion whereas Fedor didn't face him until after he had just lost to Couture and Nogueira. Hardly a top opponent when on a losing fight against top competition.

Ring the bell when you need some more history lessons on MMA and get my beer ready so I can watch tonight's fights.:bbb:cool:

Tonights fight is gonna be sick :yep

I don't care when Fedor beat him, he beat the same exact version of Timmay. It's not like Tim had slipped or faded, he was still just as capable as he was when Couture beat him.

GSP's resume SHITS on Coutures :deal The only thing GSP is missing is the second belt. But in terms of quality wins, GSP beats him.

And as a history lesson for you (short term history lesson), since you seem to need it, the reason GSP has only beaten 2 current UFC champions and one former is because he won the belt from Hughes, then lost it for a short period, but then won it back and locked it up. So as Kos, Alves and Fitch were "contenders", it is only because GSP has not allowed them to be champion.

GSP has proved and shown to use different strategies in his fights to DOMINATE different fighters. Here are some examples:

Hughes 1 - Keep the fight standing, defend the takedown and outstrike him
Hughes 2 - Initiate the takedown and control on the ground
Penn 2 - Clinch in the first round to wear Penn down and then take the fight to the ground in the later rounds and use control and GnP to win.
Kos 2 - Box the living **** out of him.

Please explain how Randy has utilized different strategies to beat different "top opposition". Good luck :good

Couture's strategy is the same always. Box until he can get the clinch, take fight to the mat, Control and GnP. Repeat.
