Here, from a different thread, are my true feelings on Joe Calzaghe:

H2H Joe Calzaghe is a very very good fighter.

I would take only RJJ and Toney to beat him at 168, of everyone who has ever fought there.

I think h2h Hopkins definitely beats Calzaghe at any weight though, but that's no slight on Joe.

At LHW, I can only think of RJJ who would definitely beat him without going all the way back to Michael Spinks in the 1980s. Maybe Michael Moorer would have beaten him at LHW, but I wouldn't bet on it.

As I have said many times before, I think he has great talent and ability, is 1 of the top 5 British fighters ever, is rightfully p4p#2 right now, is top 10-15 of his own era/generation.

This is my true and definitive rating of Joe Calzaghe.

How the hell can this be called hate??

However, my three problems with the guy are (a) his resume, (b) the way he is ludicrously overrated in this forum by guys like Pugilist and many many more, and (c) the way his performance v Bernard Hopkins was/is perceived.

Sometimes I do get a but pissed off when discussing these things, as I cannot stand fanboys and I cannot stand bias and I cannot stand getting abuse from idiots.

I pride myself on objectivity. I am Scottish so other than Alex Arthur, we have no world champions just now, so I cannot be dragged into the old nationality nonsense. My favourite fighters just now are Pacquiao and JM Marquez, those are the only 2 I would consider myself a 'fan' of though there are many more I really like and ones I don't like (Tarver, Malignaggi), but even as a fan, I am not a fanboy. I am well aware of Pac and JMM's weaknesses and flaws.

I think Calzaghe's resume is very weak considering he has been a world champion since 1997.

Kelly Pavlik is a young hungry undefeated top 10 p4p- Calzaghe has never fought someone who fits that description. His resume is not good enough for him to retire and be considered a great without fighting that fighter (young hungry undefeated top 10 p4p).

    Just my opinion.

you're right though about their resumes but what about their h2h abilities? and i think wilde is not the only one notable on villa's resume, i can't remember the site but i've read somewhere that villa also defeated someone of note.
