A team of mute people. Seriously, why does boxing need announcers. I guess they are okay for the dumb casual fan, but there should be an option to mute the announcers and just hear the action in the ring. I don't need anyone telling me who landed what kind of punch.
My absolute favorite commentating team was Lampley, Merchant, and Foreman. I thought they had terrific chemistry between them.
There are no good ones....the best is just live audience and in ring sounds with no one trying to convince you of what they think you should be seeing. It is how actual judges score fights. I hate having their incessant droning in my ears when I just want to watch and hear the fight. Instead I watch on mute most of the time and while I miss the in ring sounds I dont get stupid commentators with an agenda....when I turn the volume up between rounds to hear the corners...I usually just shake my head and laugh at some of their analysis.
Just did a thread on this last week in classic. There are a handful of fights out there like this but not a ton. Good post, and while we are in the minority I agree with you completely! https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/recorded-fights-with-no-commentary.628666/
Sugar Ray Leonard & Larry Merchant just to hear them fumble over their words maybe a cameo from Big George
I love it! I only speak English, but am constantly looking for Spanish and Asian based commentary when streaming live fights or recorded ones.
Good thread! I saw a more modern fight (can't recall which one at the moment, but I thoroughly enjoyed it more hearing the action and no commentary.
Well if you ever remember what it was PM me or revive this thread, please. I am trying to compile a list if there are enough out there. Cheers
Lampley or Ian Darke, blow by blow. Paulie as the analyst. Merchant to keep it real. Bobby Czyz was good, Bernstein is good, I don't mind Todd Grisham, throws a bit of humour in, Tompkins is still ok. Rich Marotta was a good analyst, Mauro is ok as blow by blow. I don't mind the freelance guy, who's been around for years, Bruce Beck. Glen McCrory was a good analyst. Barry Jones is good. Paul Dempsey is a pretty good host, calls it as he sees it, pretty much, a bit like Merchant used to.
