I don`t have a favourite fighter but I have two favourite decades which featured a number of fighters who I could claim to be my favourite of all time. The 80`s JCC Sr, Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran, Tommy Hearns. I`d say Mike Tyson was my favourite fighter of the 80`s. In the 90`s Roy Jones, Lennox Lewis, though I feel towards the end of the 90`s Calzaghe was better than both of those guys P4P, he certainly went on to eclipse both men as he was voted fighter of the decade for the noughties, by a collection of highly respected American boxing writers. Having said all this I was devastated when Calzaghe outboxed Jones in 2008. Out of all these names I would say I preferred Mike Tyson to all the others. Do you agree with any of the fighters I`ve listed here as my favourites? Who was the best P4P out of all the above fighters P4P?
Jones was never tested by anyone with the speed of Calzaghe, even Griffin`s speed troubled Roy, then Roy came out blasting wildly in their rematch, that would have been a big mistake against Calzaghe and any other elite fighter in history that could throw fast counters.
From my times that I watched, Foreman and Chavez. From the past, Louis, with Ali and Marciano very close.
Juan Manuel Marquez, Felix Trinidad and Eder Jofre. Trinidad was the fighter that really helped me transition to hardcore when I was a kid. The first real major fight I attended was Tito vs. Mayorga. Juan Manuel Marquez would have to be described as my favorite. I followed his career the hardest and went to see him live so many times. I remember being a fan of his around the late 90s and felt I was the only one online lol. I love his style. Jofre is far before my time but he got on my radar when I was around 15 or 16 and I started to research him intensely. I think his style may be my favorite in history (along with Marquez).
Hard to limit it to just one or even two: Favorite Philly boxer: Willie the worm Monroe (the original one) Favorite non Philly boxer: Azumah Nelson
??? What are you asking? How on earth can I agree or disagree with who your favorite(s) are??? Most of my favorites are not the greatest and many are not great? Do you want us to rank your favorites by how much we think you liked them? Not sure what you are asking but the thread question and OP don’t line up?
I personally could not name a favourite boxer as such, as enjoyed watching such a range of fighters from brawlers to supreme boxers. However an abiding favourite moment was most definitely not with a best boxer I had just passed out from recruit training to protect Queen and country, and a group of us watched the Ali vs Spinks match in Feb 78, the image of Spinks being held aloft by his cornermen with his arms raised in victory, was to a teen boxing fan like the epitome of a real life Rocky scenario, as said not the best boxer but still seeing the image brings back good memories, ok his career and indeed his life spiralled afterwards but for that brief moment in history Spinks was ' The man who beat the man' in only his 8th fight as a pro.
