Bernard Hopkins and Jermain Taylor are ex-boxers who became colour commentators, but I assume you’re not talking about that kind of ‘colour commentating’.

So in that case, I’d go with George Foreman in relation to what I’m sure you mean.

While neither was the most fluent speaker , I found both Ray and Roy to fave fantastic insight into the sport with exceptional vision to pinpoint styles , strategies and flaws.

Andre Ward is a really good commentator. He's very good at picking up on what certain fighters are doing are trying to do without bloviating about them, and he waits until he has something salient to say instead of just always trying to fill air-time, which I appreciate.

Paulie is a character and is always pretty fun to listen to. Him and Algieri work together really well on ProBox but Paulie always had a good eye and always spoke his mind. He's honest and isn't afraid to say something less than flattering about the A-sides, which isn't something seen too often nowadays unfortunately. Algieri is also very good.

Roy has a good voice for commentary and picks up pretty quickly on technique. He can tell the flow of a fight and give an emotional narrative without overwhelming the actual fight itself, or providing something contradictory to what's happening. Something which Algieri has often done is try to create a story around a fight based on his own expectations which sometimes means he misreads what's going on but others times means he can make a fight more compelling. Roy does something similar I think without getting sucked into those kind of stories.

I'm pretty sure a lot of Mexican pros end up doing commentary. Barrera, Marquez, and Chavez all do commentary and from what I've heard (not that I speak Spanish) are all fairly good. In Japan a lot of their top pros end up on commentary too, Hozumi Hasegawa is quite prolific on the mic in Japan iirc.

Always love hearing Gabe Rosado on commentary. Very relaxed guy who actually knows what he's talking about. Doesn't try to show off or brag with his boxing knowledge and isn't quiet as a mouse either.

Seriously, Sergio Mora isn't even listed? Solid analysis, knows what he's talking about, clear speech, bilingual (useful when the camera switches to a corner speaking Spanish and he tells you what they were saying), and a fast talker/thinker.

Ain't his fault they keep pairing him with Mannix.

I believe Fighting Harada has been the main expert commentators for the biggest fights in Japan for many years. In Italy, Nino Benvenuti who recently passed away was the "voice of boxing". Fabrice Tiozzo I believe was long-standing expert commentator for Canal+ in France, Kulej was the guy in Poland... so yeah, regular thing all over the world.
Julio Cesar Chavez brings a lot of energy. You feel it even without speaking the language. I have his "AHHHA!" whenever the action heats up stuck in my brain ).

Ward is objectively the best and who I would hire if I owned the company.

Roy isn't as polished, but as boxing fan I like him better. He has a good mix of calling what he sees and blending it with his personal experiences.

    George is the most fun.
