Lewis for me. Tyson was a carefully managed hype job who was not as good as the marketting suggested. Holy was great a CW but at HW he was slightly overrated - some amazing wins but bad loses - should have retired years ago. Lewis was a great champion who had to fight for every scrap of recognition he was ever given. Also went out after beating the next big thing in his divison and retired on top.
Tyson, the scariest boxer ive ever ever seen, at his best just formidable, exciting to watch, his fights were not just fights in my house they were big family events.
it c ant be bowe he never stayed around long enough to fight lewis, tyson or even mercer or a m.moorer
It was a toss up between Holyfield and Lewis I think that Holyfield was the best but Lennox because of his size was great. Tyson I like better now then at the time. I think that he was highly overrated and it just shows the stupidity of Americans because he was so popular and intimidating because of his big mouth. Doesn't that describe americans for you.
Lennox had a huge mouth.. i always found him entertaining.. "dont know what fight you watching larry" hahah
1. Mike Tyson (the very first fighter I admired...watched and followed him since the age of 6) 2. Riddick Bowe (became my favorite heavyweight while Tyson was in jail) 3. Lennox Lewis (underrated on ATG lists. the fact that he beat every man he ever faced is often unfairly understated) 4. Evander Holyfield (amazing courage, but is it necessary to inject God into everything that comes out of your mouth?)
It depends on the day for me. There are enough pros and cons to all four (and little enough splitting them in their primes head to head) that on a given day it could be any one of them. Holyfield is obviously most people's sentimental favorite, but the size thing is played out. (http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=241945) Lewis is the house cause célèbre on ESB. Tyson is perhaps the most divisive and debated heavyweight of all time. Bowe is the dark horse who did just enough to leave people wondering "what if" without it seeming like total conjectural whimsy (as with Ike Ibeabuchi, for instance). Stylistically, each has their place and warrants appreciation.
